    White screen on computer


    I turned on my HP 7 Notebook this evening. A white screen came up immediately. I am unable to do anything with the computer. When I reboot it is if I have not turned off my computer. I also unplugged the power cord and removed the battery, no changes.This looks as if it could be a major problem.

    Any suggestions?

    White Screen


    I recently posted a thread about a white screen. I have since hooked up my laptop to a monitor and that did not work. I have a boot scan disk in the laptop and that did not do anything. The blinking red light did not come on when I installed the scandisc to the laptop. Is my laptop stuck in sleep mode, or is my OS shot?. The computer does not work other than a white screen showing. Is there a way I can get my boot disk to work. Like I stated previously when I turn off the laptop and then turn it back on it is if I did not turn it off.

    Can you access BIOS screen at all ?

    Power down, then unplug the power pack and remove the battery. Now press and hold down the power button for 5 seconds or so. Then plug it back in a boot up. See if that helps.

    Somebody else also reported a similar problem today in the thread named Whute Screen. If the laptop he's reporting his problem for is indeed an HP (he mentions his system is HP in his specs, but not in the thread), this makes it two instances of the same/similar problem(s). Might be worth checking in with HP to see if they know something about it, or over at Notebookcheck or Notebookreview to see if their model-specific forums have any mention so far.

    As for me, I don't have any HP laptops at the moment (I've owned two over the years and liked both of them) so I can't comment further, except to observe that the complete power down/restart attempt (brick disconnected, battery removed & replaced) indicates it's either a severe driver issue or a hardware problem of some kind.

    Unable to access anything on my computer. I have unplugged and removed the battery, but I have not tried holding the power button. I will try that next.

    The second attempt of taking out the battery and holding the power button did not work. Can I have a bad screen?

    You obviously have some bad HW problems there. Not able to enter BIOS even with another monitor, other parts not working etc. I don't think it's solvable at home, you'll have to take it to a service.

    I agree, sounds like a hardware issue. If it was just the display I would expect some kind of activity or indication Windows was running in the background. I'm leaning towards a motherboard issue. Could even be the power pack I guess? In either case, like CountMike said, its not likely something you can fix at home.
