    Let windows defender take over
Still no response from HP even with S/n HP stated out of warranty after 3 months
I explained I did not have this problem before I had them install a new HD
Still said there is nothing they can do when it is not Warranty Unless I want to pay for information

Wow. I would still push the issue with Hp. They should give you at least a month on HD issue.

You likely have found source of one of your issues, while AV products can demand high CPU usage, for brief moments, they should not consume huge amounts for sustained periods, when you are using. So if you are looking at this right after signing in and it stays there, even after you start to use one of your browser that is not right. Most AV's try to run when you are not using and will back themselves off.

Now maybe we can connect the two events. McAfee does a lot of reading of your disk during a scan and you said you just got your HD replaced. Is McAfee running hard as it is having issues reading disk. I would head to Crystal Mark and download CrystalDiskInfo, full version.. Watch what you click, lots of pc scanning and driver update links.

Load it and see what it says about disk in health status.

It also might be worth running a Chkdsk /r from a command prompt(admin). Have your data backed up, better safe than sorry.

If these two test don't report issues....

Did you buy McAfee or was it pre-loaded. I ask as you will likely not be able to re-install without media. On the subject, did you run the HP Recovery Media creator. This will give you a copy of your system software as it was when it left factory. There is likely a Recovery partition on HD as well.

If you start your machine and say after 20 minutes find McAfee running at 70% open McAfee and see what it is doing. If it says a scan, see that it is progressing. If McAfee doesn't report doing anything, and it is at 70%, then I would un-install. Defender is a good product. I think there are better.
