DirectX 12 is great, assuming your current hardware supports it?

Why is Windows 10 a must have OS?

It’s like having a new car or dare I say a new girlfriend.

Well, phooey, that's not what I want to see in my update box!

But there they are! Could there be a new build lurking behind these updates? Inquiring minds would sure love to know, and are about to (most likely) be disappointed.

I did start getting updates about 1 hour ago--No build but at least WU is working again.

Well for me there is one big thing that makes me go the "Win-10 route". DirectX 12.

And a minor thing is the look of desktop and windows in 10. I like it a lot more than the look in win8/8.1

But it will be a shrunk Windows 10 I will get. In Denmark, there is no Cortana (and there will not be for a long time recording to Microsoft), and we can't get a date for, when Windows 10 is ready for us in our language, properly "sometime in August" have I read.

Beside of the above, I really don't think there are many differences between win8.1 (fully updated of course) and Windows 10 for us who don't have or use touch or Cortana or "modern apps".

My impression is that most of what Win 10 improves is marginal, and not of particular significance to many types of users.

DirectX 12 is probably what I see as the biggest improvement, and that's specifically for better performance in future games.

Some things Win 10 doesn't improve, but maybe takes away functionality that a user is accustomed to and prefers, and in some cases, whole features are removed - such as Windows Media Centre (which I don't use).

Windows 10 is NOT a must have OS. It's a must avoid OS. Incompatibility with DX9 games( which is a deal breaker for me). It has no MY Computer icon, and constantly locks my computer up where I have to pull the power cord to be able to reboot it. No wonder they are giving free copies away.

    I am a gamer on my stationary. Core i7 4790K, 16Gbyte ram, MSI GTX980Ti Gaming 6Gbyte Vram, ASUS SWIFT ROG 27" 2560x1440 144hz monitor :-)

But on my laptop, I only want a lean, clean OS that can run with low resources (longer time on battery). Windows 10 10130 preview don't like my laptop though (Asus ATK driverpackage for the keyboard gives some errors), so I am unsure if I will be able to use Windows 10 from day1 on this.

The stationary is another story. It will transform to windows 10 Pro ASAP (in my language)

Aren't updates going to be automatic and mandatory in the final release?

From what I hear only in the W10 core, Pro will be able to delay.
