Oh no, I only have to install Vista if doing a new hard drive, or clean install. Because that's what came with the machine. The W7 version I bought is an upgrade, it won't install except over vista. At least that's my understanding.
As for W10, no problem, I have reserved copies for both drives that have W7 currently.
Mystere- I found this just now, and thought I post here instead of news because it fits your thread:
Source: http://www.infoworld.com/article/295...s-fiction.htmlIt’s a few days before Windows 10 is officially slated to drop, and still, confusion abounds. Worse, many fallacies regarding Microsoft’s plans around upgrades and support for Win10 remain in circulation, despite efforts to dispel them.
Here at InfoWorld, we've been tracking Windows 10’s progress very closely, reporting the evolving technical details with each successive build in our popular “Where Windows 10 stands right now” report. We’ve also kept a close eye on the details beyond the bits, reporting on the common misconceptions around Windows 10 licensing, upgrade paths, and updates. If you haven’t already read that article, you may want to give it a gander. Many of the fallacies we pointed out six weeks ago are still as fallacious today -- and you’ll hear them repeated as fact by people who should know better.
Interesting Article Cliff s
Especially this part.
Don’t be surprised if Terry Myerson announces on July 29 that Insiders are already running the “real” Windows 10 -- and have been running it for a couple of weeks.
Ugh, that "common misconceptions" article is full of misconceptions... like claiming you need to have Windows 7 SP1 or Windows 8.1 to be eligible for a free upgrade. That's imply not true, any consumer (ie non-corporate) non-RT version of Windows or 8.x (8 or 8.1) is elgible. Only the 7 SP1 and 8.1 S14 can do so automatically (the others require using the ISO to upgrade, but its still free).
Another "misconception" in the article is the claim that Windows Insiders won't get a free copy of Windows 10. While it's true they won't get a stand-alone (non-insider) license, so long as you are in the insider program you can continue to have a licensed version of 10. So, while you can't leave the program and have a licensed version, you do have a free copy while you are an insider.
Where was it said that "! (the others require using the ISO to upgrade, but its still free)" can upgrade... I have only seen, from Microsoft, you MUST have Win7SP1 & Win8.1U to upgrade, nothing about "except if you use an ISO"?
