So everyone knows, I had to get off the domain, and reserver windows 10 and rejoined the domain. After the 29th past and I returned to work after my vacation, I went to windows update. and it allowed me to upgrade while on the domain. The only way to reserve it was to get off the domain, reserve it and rejoin.

I think I've read that scenario somewhere else, Gamer.

    Windows 10 Pro/Windows 7 Ultimate

Can I dual boot my Windows 7/8/8.1 and Windows 10?

    * There are two questions here really. Is it technically possible? And is it legal to do so? Legally, most likely not, unless you have two seperate license. Techncially, you probably can.
Actually this system has a different version of Win 7 running on another drive, technically *can* I dual boot? I already tried linking it in my Windows 7 Boot Manager, but Windows 10 is a little different, the actual boot drive is the 500mb "System Reserved" partition that gets installed with Windows 10, so linking to System32/Winload.exe doesn't work. Unless there is a boot manager that can set it up?

My Windows 8 system dual boots 7 and 8, not that I ever use 7 there anymore, but the actual bootloader for both OSes is on the drive with Windows 7 on it, so it's a big problem if that drive ever goes out. But I installed Windows 8 fresh on that system and the installer detected the Windows 7 drive and linked it during the install process. As I recall, there is a command that can find your existing bootloaders and set them up, but I forget how to do that. If anyone can point me to that, I can experiment with it.

You use Bcdedit to configure your boot.

I just have a (I hope) simple question.

I upgraded to Windows 10, and now any time I create a new doc, new excel sheet, try to scan something in to folders I have spent moths setting up and organizing - all tell me "access denied", contact system Admin?

WTF... I am the sys admin, it's my freaking laptop...

Sorry, I have NO idea where to post this?

    Windows 8.1

If I upgrade to Windows 10 from 8.1 now, and later on, let say after the promotion expired, can i still do a clean Windows 10 install on my laptop? Or I have to go back to windows 8.1?

Hello, daitran28. Welcome to Windows Ten Forums.

Yes. You may perform a fresh install ad infinitum after you have upgraded.

I have been wondering the same thing and from what I read the answer is yes. Make a install media of Windows Ten and you can use it on that machine for the life of the machine. Good luck to you

    win 8.1

what's the story on drivers, programs and apps.if they worked in win 7/8/8.1, will I have to get/find or hope the manufacturer has a win 10 upgrade? I'm thinking about my 4 year old printer I like, and some software/programs I have. I know in the past I had to by new equipment because it wasn't compatible with the new windows O/S at the time.(vista)(what a POS!)

Most of them work even if they are not explicitly designated as for W10, I have more than 25 year old HP Lj 4 and 6 printers that work. Lj 1300 that works too. Bearpaw scanner no problem either. AMD GPUs 5xxx and up also have decent drivers.
