Big question asked on Eight-Forums during the time of update or upgrade from Windows 8 to 8.1. Wonder if be any way of doing a clean install on Windows 8.1 PC with a downloaded upgrade ISO of Windows 10. Way then with Win 8.

The latest preview Build fully installed without extra programs installed takes up approximately 14 - 18GB of space.
I'm not worried about a clean install. I'm worried of the TOTAL space I need for the upgrade to be able to do its thing. You have to download 3GB of data - I pretty much don't care how big the initial download is - it's all about "After that, how much do I need?"

At a clean install, that I know. I mean at the free update.

If you still have $BT..... folder and winows.old, add those two and that would be about what minimum of empty space you'd need for upgrade

That's what the root of my C:\ shows (all OS and hidden files shown). See attached file...

So, I don't know what you mean by $BT.

C:\$Windows.~BT\Sources. is the folder to look for, you might need to enable view "system files" to see it.

There's no such folder at the root of my C:\. Yes, I have activated "View System Files" and "Hidden Files".

Oh and, originally, this install of Windows 7 is a clean one.

Lebon, are you looking for this folder in Windows 7 or in Windows 10?

I don't have Windows 7 installed on anything here, but I don't think you'll find that folder in Win 7.

I'm on Windows 7, yes. I'm still trying to figure out if I'll update or not by figuring out the space requirement (I have 12GB left on my 85GB SSD).

You could try enabling folder compression for various files you have (not windows directory) to gain a couple more gigs.

OK, then you probably don't have the C:\$Windows.~BT\Sources folder in Windows 7.

Probably follow the instructions Mystere gave you for compacting some folders.
