Visual Effects Are Reset When I Sign in to My Account

Every time I signed in to my Standard user account I saw that visual effects had been reset to default. [Control Panel > System > Advanced System Settings > Visual Effects] This doesn't happen when I sign in to my Administrator account.

I eventually realized what was happening: I do not have Administrator permissions when I sign in to my Standard account, obviously, so my settings for visual effects are being superseded by persistent configuration settings.

After some hit-and-miss I discovered the persistent setting that was over-ruling my choices for visual effects: Settings > Ease of Access > Other Options > Play animations in Windows. When I turned this "off" virtually all my choices for visual effects were respected.

There remain only two visual effects that I don't want to see:
    • Show shadows under windows
    • Show window contents while dragging

Going on the presumption that other settings in Windows 10 are superseding my choices, can anyone think of what those settings could be?

    EDIT #1:

Still can't figure out what setting is superseding my visual effects choices, but I did learn how to turn off "Show window contents while dragging" by editing the registry:

    • Navigate to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Desktop
    • In the right pane, double-click (to open) DragFullWindows
    • Change the Value data to 0 (instead of 1)

    Restart and ta da!

One more visual effect to change - any takers?

    EDIT #2:

Still can't figure out what setting is superseding my visual effects choices, but I did learn how to turn off "Show shadows under windows" - right here in this forum: Visual Effects Settings - Change in Windows 10, Option 4.
