Only me I sent around 10 feedbacks in a week ... Well, I am grateful of these million feedbacks because it help to improve the final OS, but I am disappointed because Microsoft said we will get a free license and after, they have second thoughts and you know the what happened.

Please, people. Microsoft didn't "lie" about anything. Too many people were "reading between the lines" and posting their interpretations of things, which of course a lot of people then saw as official comments from Microsoft, which they weren't.

There was only one time that MS implied that Insiders would get a free license, and that was quickly walked back, and that was during a conference back in January I think.. The next day Microsoft clarified somewhat, but making it clear that you needed a genuine license to upgrade from.

Everything else was simply people speculating, based on comments which were either incomplete, or taken out of context. Unfortunately, most of this is because the only real information was coming from the Insider Twitter account, and Twitter is not a great way to communicate complex information.

The facts are simple. As long as you stay an insider, you will keep getting builds from MS. These builds will work just fine, but will expire after a period of time, but you will get new builds as time goes on to replace them before they expire.

If you don't want to stay an insider after the RTM (including dropping out of being an insider at any point after RTM), then you need a licensed and genuine copy of Windows. If you have Windows 7 or 8.x, and it's within 1 year of RTM, you can still get the free upgrade to your Genuine copy of Windows. If you don't, you'll neet to acquire or purchase either a copy of Windows 7, 8.x or 10 somewhere. Or, you can just go back to whatever unlicensed OS you had and keep using it.

Excuse me, but YOU VOLUNTEERED to join the Insider program. Your "m$" owes you absolutely nothing IMO. We're all geeks here that basically do this for the satisfaction and thrill of it all. Yes?

Microsoft started the Insider program due to the negative reaction to those that didn't approve the direction they were taking with the Modern 8 series. Seems to me they did you a favor to be able to voice your viewpoint on their next OS. Why would you think they owe you? This was about direction, not fixing bugs. They can and do fix most bugs in house and/or via their chosen testers.

Turns out that anyone can continue to use 10 for free as long as we follow the rules and stay in the program, otherwise it costs the license of a past genuine Windows OS. I suspect those owning a W8 key that didn't like it really aren't losing much then.

ofc i volunteered, thats not a problem :) but as i said, theres no free lunch and if it was, it was from testers to MS, as we VOLUNTARILY test and find out the bugs for them.

and yeah they have "chosen" tester team, but itll never be the same due to colourful amount of PC setups that were running these tests. besides, personally i couldnt give a rats ass if i had to pay or give up a w8 license whatsoever, ill stay on the TP as long its needed and ran by MS. in the end, im doing the favor to users.

but youre saying that MS is doing US a favor in order to give a viewpoints to their next OS? beats me. there should be few million, hopefully 10-15mil of same-minded like me, that it would start to matter. well a bit black&white opinion, but you can figure out, why i have never voted on elections here in finland

    \,,/_@_@_\,,/ ANARCHISTFROG !

MS is saving hugeloads of money of making people like me&you to volunteer on this, by not giving basically too much to us. i saw 2 things that they want to give to insiders (?), but they were somewhat not-that-important things, that ive already forgotten those

Considering the amount of time we spend on our computers, we shouldn’t begrudge poor MS a measly £100 odd pounds to continue the use of it.
How did you arrive at this conclusion?

Where microsoft asked for money from insiders?

If you dont want to upgrade from a previous qualified version of windows, and use a clean installed technical preview, and when it will be upgraded to RTM on 7/29, what more you will want then?

What more development will be there after RTM? But you will be continuing to use your insider activation.

I'm going to quote this just so people who are reading this thread will read it again, or in the off chance they skipped it first time they'll see it now. Then hopefully they'll take it in. Then, again hopefully, they'll realise that MS revised their statement to explain it more clearly as people were taking it the wrong way, not because they were backtracking on something they never said would happen.

As much as I'd like to I cannot have conversation on political views for it's violating forum rules, so I intentionally left out your symbol and political viewpoint name. All I'll state is that I'm an old hippie. I suggest to look it up if not familiar.

Like I stated earlier > Primarily the Insider program is NOT about finding bugs, but rather direction, although it does catch some bugs I'm sure for they review the data sent back. MS doesn't need "10-15mil" computers to find bugs. A lot less did the job. Usually a very small group of advanced users were chosen. I think there are still those chosen outside the Insider program. Not sure on that. Also, let's not forget that manufacturers also test prereleases.

The "saga" of the two camps continues I guess. Obviously the majority didn't care and/or simply didn't understand the W8 series with it's drastic changes. A lot of us continue to enjoy it and use it daily, not only on towers, but on mobile devices also. But hey, that's us and obviously we're the minority.

In democracy (which the Insider program represents) people think the majority rules. Doesn't quite work that way I'm afraid. Benjamin Franklin made an interesting quote:

Democracy is two wolves and a lamb voting on what to have for lunch. Liberty is a well-armed lamb contesting the vote.
The majority simply cannot decide what is best for ALL.

and yeah they have "chosen" tester team, but itll never be the same due to colourful amount of PC setups that were running these tests. besides, personally i couldnt give a rats ass if i had to pay or give up a w8 license whatsoever, ill stay on the TP as long its needed and ran by MS. in the end, im doing the favor to users.
Now you're talking Liberty! You have a choice, which should be respected, as long as you're not infringing on other users' choices.

but youre saying that MS is doing US a favor in order to give a viewpoints to their next OS? beats me. there should be few million, hopefully 10-15mil of same-minded like me, that it would start to matter. well a bit black&white opinion, but you can figure out, why i have never voted on elections here in finland
I like W8. I didn't need the opportunity to vote on the "next OS", albeit I seized the chance when given. All my suggestions basically were for the Modern RT of which a lot still remains in 10. A good OS, but to me a navigational nightmare.

It's obvious to me that you think your votes or opinions matter otherwise you wouldn't have joined the Insider program and a fine forum such as this. Yes?

MS is saving hugeloads of money of making people like me&you to volunteer on this, by not giving basically too much to us. i saw 2 things that they want to give to insiders (?), but they were somewhat not-that-important things, that ive already forgotten those
Saving "hugeloads of money"? Not sure of that. It costs money to plan, write the Insider app, the team to oversee, and servers to implement, although it's a "pocket-change" investment for MS. The crux of it is that they'll release an OS that the majority will enjoy and use. Don't see a whole lot of profit in giving it away to Insiders and those with valid keys for the first year after release. After that period, yes, they'll make profit on it. They'll make up the difference and probably more on advertising, which is a whole different subject.

"By not giving basically too much to us"? Not sure about you, but I expected zilch when joining Insiders or thereafter. I found it to be a thrill along with this forum. The option to continue on with Insiders is a bonus to me. I'm not really enjoying 10 myself so I'll be able to dual boot with 8.1 and continue as an Insider. It won't cost me anything but the juice to power on my box and use of which I'm going to do anyway. :)

This is fairly simple if you differentiate between the Insider Program and a commercially available product.

Insider Program / Windows 10 Technical Preview

As a participant in the program you have been allowed to download and install preview releases of Windows 10. As development wraps up a current version, it is placed on the Fast and Slow rings for distribution if it passed internal ring test levels and Insiders are updated. This is how the program has always worked.

There really isn't anything different about the release that will be RTM, it will go through the same Insider Program process. Here is where I think most of the confusion (not attributable to MS miscommunication) stems.

My guess is that Insiders will be running RTM code about two weeks before 29 July. The release numbers will still be Insider Technical Preview (i.e. 10.0.xxxx releases numbers, but underneath, it will be the RTM code. So what does this mean?

It means that Insiders will be testing RTM code before 29 July. Does this mean Windows 10 is free? Nope.
    How come?
Because it is part of the Insider Program Technical Preview. That particular branch has an expiration date (let's say it is 1 October). Not only that but, the development cycle continues and what was RTM on your Insider install will become the next development release when it is placed on the ring for distribution. In other words, an Insider Technical Preview install will always be subject to the dangers inherent in testing pre-release (development) code ... you will only have code that matches RTM for a short while, maybe only a few days.

The Insider testing program is ongoing and you won't have a 'stable' install until the next milestone (Redstone Q1 2016).

The free upgrade of a qualifying system is valid for up to one year. I think that is clear enough, it is the Insider Technical Preview that causes the confusion.

There is still some ambiguity about the ability to run both the qualifying OS and Windows 10 (multi-boot or transfer). This probably won't get resolved until closer to 29 July. MS doesn't really want those qualifying systems hanging around - they want everyone up-to-date on Windows 10. That doesn't address the need some people have to support clients who stay on the previous releases unless you have to purchase a new license for the older system - that makes no sense and it will upset a lot of technical people.

Sure Windows 10 is free, but I have clients on many different Operating systems. I'm not going to upgrade for 'free' only to have to go buy the OS I already have. The choice for me would be to keep the older systems and run the Insider program to be able to support all clients. Eventfully this hardware will be replaced and I'll have 6 machines running 6 OSes (XP, Vista, Win7, Win8, Win8.1, Win10).

    Clear as mud

Call it one of my many "seniors moments", but I'm getting more confused with the more I read. All I want when the final release comes out is a W10.iso that I can do a fresh install with. Should I stop with the previews to do this? I really don't want to be a guinea pig after the final release. Should I or can I quit the preview program and still get an iso for a fresh install?
