I would assume that also. Provided, you can get into BIOS and the computer runs fairly well and boots OK. Personally, I would run it that way for a few days just to make sure there is nothing else wrong.

If your SSD is still under warranty, I would try to RMA it. Please let us know how it runs and if you notice any problems.

You did a good job, well done.

Will get a new SDD regardless as this old SATA is trying on the patience. Any other drama and I'll change the mobo and cpu as about time for an update regardless.

Many, many thanks for the suggestions and support throughout the day. Much appreciated.

You're very welcome. I'm glad it worked out for you, or at least seems to have.

Had I known the amp had a fault, I of course would not have plugged it in. Would I need to replace MOBO or drive or could be both?
The sad thing is that you never know. Even with a surge protection device or an isolation transformer just for the amp or computer. Anything bad can find a way to get on the house electrical ground and find items to cause damage to.

When you hear about people talking about only their satellite or CATV box was plugged into their tv with a HDMI cord and cannot figure the life why the tv got fried. They forget that the ground bus pin on the HDMI cord is what did it.

At least you got lucky and did not have the computer connected to the amp. Otherwise it could be far worse.

Grab another computer, check out all drives for S.M.AR.T. information and run a data integrity test to make sure nothing happened to them when your amp decided it was wanting to reach out and touch someone. It can take a few days or a couple of weeks, depending on your schedule. The Data integrity tests can be left to run overnight and then you get the reports when you get home to figure out what is next.

Even if you wait until Boxing day. You may find a good deal on a off lease box, until you can get a replacement for that system that you had. There are also testing units that you plug into the PCI & PCIe rails, same as for the power supply to check to see if anything got fried. Those units do not cost much and they are always nice to have when you need them. Plus you never know when you have someone ask you to look at their system for you to pick up a few bucks here and there.

There are now a lot of Hybrids going on the market that have been pulled from units that have not sold, same as Motherboards. I would keep the computer on an isolation transformer/UPS at this point. No need to lose the new gear when you build it out. Check Newgg and Amazon all of the time. Right now there are some great daily deals on Newegg.
