    Regedit Crash

    Hello,
Once I have installed "Audiograbber", not knowing about the ripping ability of win 10 media player. So I looked into the installed programs to uninstall it, it was not in the list, even CCleaner did not list it.
Then I opened the windows 'all apps', found the program and there was also a line to uninstall it. Uninstalled it, then opened the "regedit' to remove all traces, it found 3, to be safe I 'exported - saved' them then deleted. Clicked on F3 to continue the search, after a long while nothing found, so I clicked on the 'cancel' and got a notice that 'regedit' stopped working and restarting (regedit). Such crashes I noticed on some other ocasions. Ran virus chk. ran malware program chk - all is clean.
Is something wrong with this regedit ? system works fine.
    Any help about this ?
    Thanks
    Motim

I think you may be encountering the registry search issue which has been reported a number of times. I seem to recall someone said it had been fixed in an update, but if you search the forum maybe you'll find the long thread on this.

Recommendations to avoid the problem are to use 3rd party registry editors (there are some good ones free that offer better search features than Regedit - search all the registry and list results).
    E.g.
    OO RegEditor
Free. Also has an address bar into which you can paste an address, accepting e.g. HKLM. Has Favourites, Frequently used.

Now if you want a MUCH safer and better way to do what you were doing, use e.g. Geek uninstaller (free) which I use routinely.
This automatically scans for leftovers after running the standard uninstall. Fast, convenient.

Registry Workshop is a excellent reg editor, but its not free. I've been using it for years now. Never had one problem with it.

I'm EXTREMELY leery of third party registry "cleaners" myself. The only one I've used for ......... at least 8 years now is the one in Ccleaner and even then I only use it rarely and I save the changes. Not worried about going into the registry when its called for, been working with these machines for way too long for that, but in my experience its rarely called for.

I agree entirely... but please make an absolute distinction between uninstallers and registry cleaners. I do hope you know the difference. Nothing in the above refers to what some have termed 'snake-oil' products.

@Motim, According to your specs, you are on 1511, the November update from 2015. OS Windows 10 Pro 1511

This issue was fixed a long time ago. I would suggest you update to the current Anniversary Update 14393.447. Don't need third party reg editors. You need to get up to date. You're way behind.

    Hello to all,
    Thanks for the answers.
And especially to 'f14tomcat' have some questions, this is because in my previous win 7 I was 'burnt' with lot of updates, and system started making troubles until my pc stopped, had to buy a 'tailored' one with win 10 installed on it. So these are my questions: Is this "Anniversary Update 14393.447" just another update, what about my 'registration', do I have to register again like after installing a new system (I have not the original installation cd), do I have to pay for it, is it much different from the system I use now, what about all my other installed programs.
I was looking about this "Anniversary Update 14393.447" and was asked if I want to get it now, but I wait untill get some answers.
    Will appreciate some more info.
    Thanks.

@Motim ... if you already have the 10586 up and running fine, and you are offered the Anniversary Update, MS says you are OK. Go ahead and accept the update. Do a good backup first, always a wise move.

I had that problem today with regedit crashing. I'm not on the AU version yet though since I haven't seen any news that the missing drives / RAW format issue reported on the forum has been solved.

No one can predict whether or not you will experience this RAW problem.
I never have and so must have others.
Even if you should this is easily fixed as there's no data loss involved unless the user himself actually provokes it.

Seeing that you have both a pc and a laptop I suppose you can find a workaround by either backing up the data elsewhere just in case.

Not telling you what to do in any way but I think most of us are pretty happy with the AU edition. Regedit is working fine too.

    Cheers,
