Problem solved, with the drive connected through the USB enclosure I repaired the partition then formatted the drive with AOMEI Partition Assistant Standard Edition, freeware, then booted with the enclosure attached and the PC booted fine.
I then attached it to the PC on Port 1 and the PC booted fine again.
As I have all the data backed up, copying it over is the next step.
Thanks to all for your help and advice, it was a team effort.
