    ...TS should able to do just that from a second W10 install he already has on the same machine...
    I think both the thread starter and I want to know: what is TS? Having never used Windows 10, I cannot remember what TS is.

    No, definitely not. You'd loose everything that way.
    Here's an idea: copy all your work files and programs from the messed up install to the working install to the exact same locations. I am assuming the working Windows system drive letter is the same as the old one.After that you copy your registry backup to your working system and we will import that file in your working registry.Before you proceed make a full image of that working system.A repair/upgrade install won't work since that system does not even boot.

    The only other way that may work, would be trying to do it from a Linux Live DVD to get into the drive. It is a risky move. I have never done it. Also chntpw is a chance. chntpw Freecode
    This is for XP. You may want to dig a bit more if this does not work. HowTo: Fix Corrupted Windows Registry from Ubuntu partition
    I did not want to go this route, because it can cause more damage if done wrong, instead of doing an in place repair, which keeps everything, but repairs the Windows OS.

    Already did a Clean Install Backuped my precious files but forgot to backup the most precious one all of my google chrome extension settings are gone
    I want to cry

    thanx guys for helping me I will definitely gonna try this if this problem find me again

    @dalchina
    That's what I suggested in post #24.

    Hi,

    They're supposed to be empty. Those files were created when W10 finished installing that machine.
    The ones you have in the "Config" folder are corrupted, or so it seems....

    @fdegrove
    No offend to you but your statement is completely false. The regback folder is backup periodically (every 10 days or so). This is known in the previous version of Windows as "The last known good profile..."
    As you can see. In my PC, this folder is not empty and all files dated 11/9/2016, the backup was triggered by the task scheduler: Task Scheduler Library -> Microsoft -> Windows ->Registry. Was last run successfully on 11/19/2016 (10 days later with no change). If all files in this folder are empty then either the task is not running or restore point was not created properly.

    No offense taken.
    The machine I verified this on is a relatively fresh install. The backup task is scheduled to run on 11/30 which explains the 0 kB files on my machine.
    What I do not understand is why this is also the case for OP though.

    Thanks for the correction provided.

    Cheers,

    Maybe my task wasn't running that's the reason it didn't backup any registry
