USB ports are overload protested. If you draw to much current from them they just turn off. It's not due to ready boost.

External Graphics card? I use a USB external monitor on my laptop as a second display. It has an external GPU in it. It doesn't become usable until Windows has booted up fully. After I have logged in. I'm running in Extend with my laptops screen set as the Main display. I have never tried to run it stand alone in "second screen only mode". Not sure it would work that way? I'd have to try it to see. Even then you likely wouldn't see the BIOS POST screen etc?

One more check - can you post an image which shows both the keyboard so that the key layout is legible, as well as the screen with the mirror image of the start screen at the same time?

As it's an old computer and an LCD screen I would say it's your graphics card.
However, I came across this info, see second answer it may help your situation. Good Luck!

Unfortunately not. If you look at his first picture the image is not rotated it is inverted (if you held it up to the mirror it would look OK). As it happens on the BIOS splash screen it must be a hardware issue as Windows isn't loaded. S/he already tried re-installing Windows 7.

If it works with external monitor then the screen or the inverter cable is broken. If external monitor does the same then the problem is most likely the motherboard.

Being a 3 year old laptop and out of warranty I'm not sure it would be cost affective to fix. I would suggest checking to see if you can get a shop to give you a free estimate or start checking out for a new laptop.

Since the OP has gone quiet, I assume the situation described in this thread was a hoax.

It is easy enough to obtain mirror images of screenshots using Paint, but less easy to show a reversed screen but normal keyboard in the same image without splicing half-images together, which will usually show artefactual pixels near the join, unless expertly done.

I'd love to be proved wrong here.

Not a Hoax. That mode is only for when you use a projector shined into a mirror for a short throw projection screen for home theaters with limited seating depth from the screen or low ceilings.

My screen became reversed from left to right after installing windows

April Fools came early for you I see. It used to be a great gag to cause it to rotate like that or reverse. The look on someone's face was just priceless. This has nothing to do with electricity or damage to your laptop. It is a feature of the Driver to allow you to place a projector to shine into a mirror for a short throw projection screen.

Ctrl-Alt-Uparrow or Ctrl-Alt-Downarrow should fix it.

Also you already had a thread going on about this. Why thry new one?

I saw that they all did not hit the broadside of a barn, even if the were right in front of it at Point Blank range.
