problem saving .bat file

As a general rule I dont trust bat files! unless I want a virus.

May I suggest to search the system drive ? I bet you'll find at least a dozen batch files.

I write batch files in Wordpad, then save them with the extension set to .bat and the file type set to "All Files".
If a batch file gets saved with the .txt extension, that can be renamed to .bat easily.

I still use them too, but use Notepad (no formatting in .bat files) and when going to save simply enclose the File name with quotes so it doesn't save it as a .txt file ie "NewBatchFile.bat"

Not all my old ones work with Win10 though due to permission errors on C: Drive nowadays....

Agreed, word processors such as Wordpad, Word, WordPro, WordPerfect, WordStar, etc., tend to have hidden formatting while Notepad is just plain text. Some of the Notepad replacements may also not be just plain text. It's all about the formatting of the text, sentences, paragraphs, etc.

TechnoMage DOS is not deeply buried into Windows 10. It has not existed since XP. There is the Command Line Interpreter that is very limited. Batch files have been gone sone XP when scripts started to be used to handle stuff.

Batch files do not make your system get infected. They are basically a restricted Macro that you have the file run a set process.

.bat is just a file extension that stems from the DOS era but you can still use it in W10 if the command lines are properly written for the W10 command line interpreter.

No one uses Batch files anymore. They are holdovers from the DOS days for those who continue trying to use them instead of using Scripts which have been used since XP came out. If you are still living in the days of past, there is some training that needs to be done to show you how much more powerful scripts can be.

I never got the message that everyone has to go through you first before they post. The only thing off topic is you trying to tell people that they do not have the right to post on a thread and state fact that no one is using batch files anymore since XP.
