If you've only just installed version 10240 then checking for updates will only install the latest cumulative update. These are the regular 'security and bug-fix' patches that you are familiar with from previous versions of Windows. The 'Features Updates' (1511 and now 1607) are basically a new version of Windows 10. This is a 3-4GB download and performs a full upgrade (taking about an hour). Windows update will not offer the Features Update until 30 days after the initial install of Windows 10.

Probably because I was not up to speed with what is happening with 10.
I bought a 10 usb stick some time ago when it first came out.
There are some features of 10 that make 7 and 8 less than easy to use.

As it happens, I don't usually stay with the same OS for more than a few weeks.

Just to give you some numbers, after the initial RTM/Release to Market/Manufacturers Build 10240 on July 29, 2015 we got an Upgrade to Version 1511 with different builds/updates [November 2015] then a year later we got Upgraded to Version 1607 Build 14393 [July 2016] actually released on 8/2 and called the Anniversary Update, updates now at .321 of that.

At the beginning, I ran 10 for a few days then bailed because I was used to 8.0 / 8.1 or
Server 2012 was a favorite because it had no metro / modern APPS as Windows 7

... was a big fan of oblytile -

but now am using a lappy with a resolution 3840 x 2160 connected to another display.
Windows 10 can run different resolutions on different connected displays.

Downloading the lastest version of 10 now.

If you wish to do a clean install of Windows 10 again (after cycling through a few other OSs) then you'll need the install media on a bootable USB or as an iso. The Media Creation Tool can make those for you. If your current install of Windows 10 has successfully activated then a clean install should automatically activate as soon as it checks for your Digital Licence on Microsoft's activation servers.

Or you could make a system image of your PC as it is now to restore after you tire of playing with other OSs :)

Yep. I'll try that media creation tool.

At the same time,
I upgraded to True Image 2017 and made a few images.
TI is awesome. A complete restore can happen in minutes
using rescue media thumb / flash selecting the tib file.

Or, the installed program can change operating systems using RESTORE from an image.

On the other hand, I will change computers from the high performance lappy to my asrock board
custom built NVidia 660TI corsair cooled 3770k system.

Normally, it is easiest to just change an SSD with the Asrock board.
I have a pile of SSD's like playing cards each loaded with a different OS.
