    not an insider

    Hello.

Not being a regular here anymore,
just signed up for Ethernet @ home,

    still using build 10240,
when is Microsoft going to release a system build update to non - insiders?

If NOT an insider, using 10240, will that stay 10240 not being an insider?

How is Microsoft going to advance Windows 10 builds to non insiders?

    Thanks

New build releases come through Windows Update just like regular updates for mainstream release

ok. Thanks. So, after a while a new build will install thru Windows Update ?

ok. I wonder how long that will take to happen.
Will it update to the latest?

I wonder what the timeline is for that service to happen and what level of update?
.... so used to just getting security updates and software updates but not operating system updates.

There was a post somewhere that if one does not have the right build to begin with,
    no build updates will happen.

Why not become an insider ... you might ask ?
Is there not a requirement to log on with a Microsoft Account to be an Insider?
I don't want to log on with a Microsoft Account.

It should do, but for some reason it doesn't seem to have happened for you. Microsoft have released two major Features Updates for Windows 10 and monthly cumulative updates for all three versions. These are for everyone (not just Insiders). You can see the release history is here... https://support.microsoft.com/en-gb/...update-history

Exactly what build are you on? Type Winver in the search next to Start to find and run it. If Windows Update is working for you then you should be on build 10240.17146 by now.

Somehow you missed the 'Fall Update' last November to version 1511, that is now at build 10586.633. The 'Anniversary Update' 1607 came out in August this year, now up to build 14393.321

If it's not coming downstream from Windows Update you can get the AU update here. https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/...update-history

From time to time I use 10.

Just got this high performance lappy that apparently has an embedded 10 product key.
Every clean installation is automatically activated!

... probably will never remain with the same OS long enough to get a build update.
