    Computer Freezes on Loading Screen

    Hey, all

Normally I'm able to solve my issues myself. Google is my best friend, but I truly have not been able to find a solution to this one. I have a dual CPU desktop workstation that came with Windows 7. I upgraded to Win10, everything seemed fine, then I tried to reboot.

If I shut down the computer or restart, when it comes to the Win10 loading screen (the circling dots), it will freeze up and not continue the boot. The little dots just freeze in place. I've tried leaving it for hours on this screen to no avail.

Okay, this gets really weird. If I shut the computer off at any time before the loading screen or when it locks up, and then turn it back on, Windows 10 will load just fine and not lock up. How weird is that? I have to shut the computer off midboot in order to get Windows 10 to load without freezing up.

Prior to this, I just said F it and dealt with it since I don't reboot the machine often, but I've now realized the issue...Windows updates. I can never update the machine because it locks up on the boot when trying to finish the update process.

I've tried everything I can think of. I've perused the BIOS, I've looked in the power settings in Windows. Many people say to shut off fast boot, but I don't have any options for a fast boot on my machine. I just cannot find a way to fix this. Do any of you have any thoughts?

    Thank you!!

Some process is holding it up and the OS is trying to repair itself. Have you tried to do sfc /scannow from a Admin Command Window?

I did try that, it said that it couldn't find any issues. Thanks for the thoughts though! Anyone else?

Have a look at "Reliability History"and if there are any red flags, right click on "view tech details",which will give you the cause, normally.

Still a no-go. Didn't reveal anything useful. Anybody else have any ideas or suggestions?

Time to download Farbar's minitoolbox and run it, then post the output. It will help after you get the info posted, to have this thread moved over to the forum that handles these issues.

The Windows log that records everything from start to finish does get kind of large when you have these kind of events. The only other suggestion is to use MSConfig and go through each start item one by one, until you find the culprit. Also check in your registry in the RunOnce and Run sections for the computer and users, to see what programs are starting up when the computer boots and when the user logs in.

It could just be as simple as a Security software problem that is running a scan after boot and before getting to the login window that is your headache.

Just ran the log after the system froze up. Shut everything down, turned it back on, was fine as usual on the second boot attempt. This is the log that came out of minitoolbox. I'm not exactly sure what to do with it myself :P
