    Windows 10, 1607: What i dont like.

i installed the windows 10 1607 (fix); i dont like it.. i dont like it because it made a mess of whats under the "start" button.. it now lists all user programs, and i really dont need to see this list unless i WANT TO, unless i click on an icon or link that shows me the list.. i dont want to see a long list of ANYTHING unless i actively seek it.. this list of user programs on a list which appears each time i use the "start" button is cluttering up the start area and is distracting to my efforts to find what im looking for.. i know i can "suppress" the list, but only at this occasion; the next time i press start, it happens again; i dont want it to happen again..

so, how did this happen? did m'soft compile a "focus group" to see what features want? did the participants REALLY say, "oh, yes, we want to see a list of programs on the pc because we dont want to have to click on a link or icon to see it".. REALLY? that lazy? and what if m'soft had put in an option about "do not show me this again"? i see this option many times in situations from many s'ware products and websites: they make you aware of a situation, but, if it doesnt interest you, you click on the option "do not show me this again".. i can see the list of s'ware if i want to.. give me an option to show the list at my request, but DONT SHOW ME THE LIST WITHOUT MY ASKING FOR IT.. if i need to see the list of s'ware, ill manage, but dont push things into my sight unless i request it thru a link or whatever.. this isnt the way to IMPROVE m'soft products; its just another way to aggravate users into posting on forums.. i dont consider this an IMPROVEMENT, more like a DEPROVEMENT..

the display of s'ware on my pc under the start button without my asking is an imposition on the focus of my attention.. my mind is focused on other issues; i dont need m'soft to "crowd" the area under the "start" button with stuff i dont want to see.. if i want to see it, i will ask for it, but dont push it on me this way..

Just change your Start menu, I did. Takes about a minute.

But to be totally honest, I never experienced the scenario that you described with my start menu after I installed the Anniversary Edition. Even after the clean install of 1607 my start menu still did not have that complete list that you described.

Fix it, should take less than a minute.

Same comment here. I also have an expanded list of all "apps" in my start list. Someone suggested Classic Shell. I tried it for a while but would rather just clean up the Start provided with Windows. If there's a way to get rid of the expanded Apps list, I'd like to try it.

I don't have a fix to put it the way you like it ,but why open it at all when all you have to do is type into search the name of the app you want to use ,and Walla its there to click on app icon and it will open ,and you can then use it to your harts content.

and this isn't an official Microsoft Help Forum ,maybe you could go there and call them names and tell them how much you don't like them ,lol, good luck . https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us

I don't know about Remoat, but I don't use Start of starting programs - I use desktop icons. I use it to get to Settings, Power, and the right-click things like Run (and the right-click list overlays the apps list so that's no problem). It's not so much that the Start menu is unusable; it's just cluttered for no useful purpose.

No, this isn't an official Microsoft Help forum. It's a useful help forum. Much better! :)

Yes, this was a major change in the start menu functionality. MS keeps tweaking the start menu based on user feedback.

Unfortunately, you can never get 100% of the people to agree to any change, so there will always be some set of users that don't like it. If you happen to be one of those people, it sucks, but you've been outvoted. If you want a say in how Windows 10 is developed, then you should join the Insider program and participate in the feedback forum. This particular change has been in the Insider build for several months, and there was plenty of news articles about it. You had opportunity to comment to Microsoft, but did not.

That either means that A) how windows is designed really doesn't matter to you or B) doesn't matter enough for you to bother to participate. Either way, complaining after the fact isn't particularly beneficial.

There are two solutions to your problem, however. First, you can enable full screen mode. That will make the all apps menu minimized by default, but you may not like the full screen mode.

The second is to get a start menu replacement, many of which have numerous ways you can have your start menu laid out.

Let me expand on Mystere's "start menu replacement" suggestion. I use Stardock's Start10 ($5 per seat, occasional coupons and discounts available). I also use the Windows 7 style menu (as I did with Windows 8 and 8.1). My family members don't even know it's running and they've never complained about the desktop in either OS. Highly recommended, and worth every penny of the cost.

I guess that's one fix, for myself I don't see the issue ,I always just use what ever start the OS I was using had to offer me , I mostly just add icon to taskbar and desktop and work from there ..and I have always done that ,been using windows since 3.11,, now I use both windows and Linux [on my Raspberry P1] and I do the same with the start in Linux ,,I know no one cares what I do ,so I'm just saying I don't see anything to get all upset about or spend money to change ,yada, yada, yada
