Windows 10 home freezing after reinstall

So a few months ago i decided to do the free update to windows 10, it was good. Now I got a free windows 10 home disk, so i decided to reinstall just for the heck of it. I installed windows 10, then fixed my settings and installed steam and my gtx 960 drivers, about 20 minutes it froze. And when I say froze the whole system locked up and i couldn't do anything, there was no disk activity, and there was nothing happening on screen. Now when i boot up and login and start doing stuff it will freeze basically randomly. For the past week i have bean self troubleshooting, I installed my dell inspiron 580 chip set drivers, I changed power options as some fixes suggested, I tried the "make an admin account and sign in and my account would good again" method that Microsoft suggested, and i even used memtest86 to check for bad ram. Its still freezing, it was working fine before now after this reinstall it keeps freezing. Sometimes once it freezes and I do the hard reset that i have to do to reboot, it will freeze in the boot process.

    Specs

Make/Modle: Dell Inspiron 580 (with graphics card changed)
    OS: Windows 10 home
    Processor: Intel i3
    Memory: 6 GB
Hard drive(s): 1-600 gb HHD and 1-400 gb HHD
    Graphics Card: Nivida GTX 960
(If you need any other info i will see if i can find it on my computer)

Hi, can you tell us exactly what build of Windows you have installed or on your boot disk?

    E.g. in Windows:
Windows key + R, type winver

Build 1511 is the older build, 1607 the current anniversary build, and of that 14393.xxx is the exact build. 14393.187 is the latest.

Freezing issues were widely reported in the press and on the web with the anniversary build (have a look), and MS released an update a few weeks ago which supposedly resolved that.

Further, can you advise if your PC is on Dell's list as being compatible with Win 10.

So I downloaded the media creation tool, and burned Windows to a disk in hope that it has the updates pre installed on it.

    Hi,

    - if you use what you have downloaded, it will be the anniversary build (1607). Exactly which build level it will be I don't know, I'm afraid.

This update for the anniversary build was aimed at solving freezing issues.

you should be able to check the build of your bootable medium using this guide:
ISO - See what Language, Edition, and Architecture of Windows 10 - Windows 10 Forums

But under Here's How, omit step 1 ('cos you're not dealing with an iso) and change H to the drive letter of your boot medium (disk or flash drive).

The very latest build number is 14393.187.

Please note: you can edit an existing post rather than creating a new one each time.

Unfortunately a good number of users experienced freezing issues after uninstalling the anniversary edition. This is widely documented, and MS released a fix. Those with older PCs may be more vulnerable.

I've never experienced this. But I do use a lot of Win 7 icons and a start menu orb, and regret the loss of customisation in '10.

If you're happy with Win 7 that's great - I seem to recall a 100+ updates to bring it up to date.

In any event, start using disk imaging to secure your PC.
