Solved - Win 10 Anniversary Update 1607 - The Worst Ever?

This one has to be the worst of them all. It has taken us back to '90s era when we had to do such stupid things such as take out USBs while installation, install drivers and do backups and all that stuff.

Few days back i decided to install the Annversary Update ie. 1607 update as people said it had many new and improved features. But unfortunately it turned out to be my worst ever Windows experience EVER. Even worse than the Windows 98!

Following unsolved issues which i have been facing so far:-

    1) Initially it refused to update and i had to download the HUGE update again and again and again. Subsequently i realised that like old old days i had to remove the wireless receiver of my mouse/keyboard to complete the installation.

    2) Even though the installation is complete, 6 out of 10 times windows gets stuck on the black screen and process ONLY if i remove the wireless usb receiver.

    3) Cold boot and resuming from hibernation now takes AGES! Prior to the 'much awaited' update a cold boot took around 50 seconds and resuming from hibernation tool hardly 15-20 seconds. Now cold boot takes around 2-3 minutes and resuming from hibernation takes around 1.5-2 minutes. It always gets stuck on the login screen and processes the entered password as if it is negotiating from servers situated on Pluto!

    4) My reliable tp link wireless adpater automatically gets unplugged every 2-3 hours or so. I have to unplug replug to make it work everytime.

    5) *reserved for more stupid performance issues*

I am happy to be a part of this active forum. guys if anyone of you could solve any one of the above mentioned issues then i would be mooore than happy.

    Regards

Edit: Solved all my issues by doing a Clean Install.

Have you checked in Device Manager to see if you have any driver problems. It could be that some of your problems may be fixed by updating drivers. If that doesn't work you can try a repair install to see if it will fix your problems. Repair Install Windows 10 with an In-place Upgrade - Windows 10 Forums

i have checked it and there are absolutely no driver updates for my system. if you remember the old days of windows 98 then it was in those times that we had to worry about the drivers. Since windows xp came, thinking and worrying about the drivers became a thing of the past. Windows 7 mastered the art of managing almost all the drivers of its own.

Then why again the issue of drivers in Windows 10??

    Anyways my problem still persists...

Where did you hear that worrying about drivers is a thing of the past? Sorry your problem still persists. I have fixed a few not driver related problems by doing a repair install. It may be worth a try. If you try it make sure you read and carefully follow the guide. If done correctly you won't lose anything except hopefully your problems.

    will give that a try...

btw if you try to recollect win 98 days then plug and play was non-existent. Win XP onwards plug and play thing came into existence and you could connect a device with almost 80% of its functionality by just plugging it in the usb port. Win 7 mastered that art as more and more devices were made compatible with it. For eg. any printer, any mouse, any digi cam, any webcam, scanner, usb ups data system, you name it and it used to work without worrying about installing drivers from a CD/usb.

Win 10 brings back the horror of '90s. Win 10 experience has so far been very very disappointing. One reason could be that now microsoft focuses of a unified system, one that works similarly across all devices such as your phone, tablet, laptop, desktop, touch screen monitors etc. So somewhere the 'soul' of desktop Windows has been substituted by that of a phone/tablet. See, previously you could double click your mobile broadband connection to get conencted. now you have to single click it, then wait for a new window to open and then you have to click the Connect button!! wow is this called forward thinking??
In networks section again, you could simply double click any wifi network to get connected. Now you have to single click its name and then again single click Connect to get connected.

Control pannel is all messed up. Some features working in control pannel while some of them have been shifted to the new bogus App system which is damn buggy! you never know where do you have to go to find a specific feature/system, in the old control panel or in the new App thing.

The only thing progressed so far is the number from Win 8 to Win 10. Nothing more!

Windows 10 is still in it's infancy stage so it' experiencing growing pains. Even with the help of the Insider Programs it seems like for every problem MS fixes a new one pops up. Windows 10 will get there. It's just going to take time. IMHO and it's only a opinion, Windows 8 should of never been released. Windows 8.1 should have been the first release. And I'll probably get a ear full for this one. Windows 10 and Edge was released to the general public way before it was ready.

I agree with every single word you said.

I hope they fix it soon!

Plug and Play came into existence before Windows 98. The situation with Windows 98 and drivers was due to the hardware of the day that folk tried to run Windows 98 on - ISA architecture, which was generally not plug and play compliant, com port serial devices, parallel ports, and only partial compliance with the newly introduced USB 1.0. Not only underspecified old hardware, but often inadequate system RAM, because their old motherboards could not support more than 4 MB, or less.

Hardware devices and peripherals connected with these old architectures often required manual setting of jumpers for memory ranges and IRQ channels, and gave people like me a living sorting these problems out for them.

XP was fantastic because the hardware and devices and the software to run them all came together at the right time and at a reasonable price, and there was a huge expansion in the growth of the PC market. Devices and drivers for them were current and Plug and Play had truly arrived.

Windows 10 driver problems are worse than with with XP and Windows 7 in their day, because device manufacturers have decided not to support their old devices by writing Windows 10 compatible drivers. Why should they, when they are selling better new devices, often at a fraction of the cost those legacy devices were purchased at originally?

If you want to use legacy hardware, don't upgrade, simply because your 10 year old PC* is able to run Windows 10 at a basic level.

Upgrade your hardware devices and peripherals instead if you want to take advantage of the new Windows OS, until you are ready to buy a modern system.

Rather than a pointless rant about how bad Windows 10 1607 is, why not try to use the Experience and Expertise of Tenforum Members to help you with your Driver problems?

Firstly, fill in your System Specs FULLY, and which Windows version you upgraded from.

Then explicitly describe your problems with individual Devices and their Drivers in the Hardware and Drivers Forum, preferably one device per thread. Maybe you will get some insight into why your update was a disaster.

If you solve these fundamentals, then your Instability and Performance issues may go away. It may be as simple as you may need to ditch that Wireless device for something more compatible and supported by its manufacturer for Windows 10.

*This is an example only - I am not commenting on your system since you give no description of it.

I have already posted the details of my issue in the first post.

For example we have to take out the wireless logitech usb receiver to complete the update process. Are Logitech wireless keyboard/mouse legacy hardware?? Is the logitech unifying receiver a legacy hardware?

Common...this is 2016! dont make people feel like '90s.

As long as you leak sparse details like the Logitech brandname, which has been around for 34 years and has been making Wireless mice for probably half that time*, and you do not give precise details, you will not get any satisfactory replies. it is as simple as that.

We don't make the OS here - we just give our free time to help genuine, polite people, who want to be helped.

    *edit - since 1991
