Hard forced shutdowns are not good for Windows, especially repeated ones. It usually leads to file corruption and even more lockups etc. Sometimes you have no choice, but if its happening a lot, IMHO, it's only going to get worse. Sooner or latter you'll have to address the issues causing it.
There are 3 really good but completely separate points in that paragraph:
    1. Hard forced shutdowns are not good for Windows
    2. Sometimes you have no choice
    3. Sooner or latter you'll have to address the issues causing it.

As I mentioned earlier in this thread, I had little problem with 2 AU upgrade-in-place installations, but when after upgrading my wife's laptop, switching between users (both local admin accounts) would hang up - black screen. Twice it eventually woke up enough after 10-15 minutes to present the lock screen, and one of those times it eventually got to the login screen (but would not accept the password). The only way out was usually 2 forced shutdowns - one to get out of the black screen following the request to switch, and another because we could not get beyond the lock screen after the 1st reboot.

Yesterday I did a clean reinstall and now there are no apparent problems.

Prior to Windows 10 I had never done a Windows install - clean or otherwise - and never considered it a necessary part of my knowledge base. Since my first upgrade-in-place to Win 10 a little over a year ago I've had to do 5 of them (on 3 computers). Installation of Windows is tedious, and configuring the settings afterwards is irritating. But the reinstallation of the 25 or so software packages on 2 of the PCs is a real pain!

I don't expect and upgrade-in-place process to be error free. In fact, I don't know how it can be expected to work at all! But to foist this error-prone process on a non-technical user community and expect them cope by doing clean reinstalls is absurd.

My wife's laptop went overnight to 1607. She lost all gadgets (weather, calendar) which I somehow managed to install on Windows 10. The upgrade process simply removed them.
We don't care about the Gadget technology in particular. We are willing to give up parts of the screen, to permanently display weather, clock, calendar, even currency rate. If the old Gadget technology is not secure enough, we could settle for something else. Tiles look ugly.

    @andrewsc - you could take a look at https://www.rainmeter.net/

It's not as simple to use as Windows Gadgets, but gives a lot more flexitility

This one has to be the worst of them all. It has taken us back to '90s era when we had to do such stupid things such as take out USBs while installation, install drivers and do backups and all that stuff.

Few days back i decided to install the Annversary Update ie. 1607 update as people said it had many new and improved features. But unfortunately it turned out to be my worst ever Windows experience EVER. Even worse than the Windows 98!

Following unsolved issues which i have been facing so far:-

    1) Initially it refused to update and i had to download the HUGE update again and again and again. Subsequently i realised that like old old days i had to remove the wireless receiver of my mouse/keyboard to complete the installation.

    2) Even though the installation is complete, 6 out of 10 times windows gets stuck on the black screen and process ONLY if i remove the wireless usb receiver.

    3) Cold boot and resuming from hibernation now takes AGES! Prior to the 'much awaited' update a cold boot took around 50 seconds and resuming from hibernation tool hardly 15-20 seconds. Now cold boot takes around 2-3 minutes and resuming from hibernation takes around 1.5-2 minutes. It always gets stuck on the login screen and processes the entered password as if it is negotiating from servers situated on Pluto!

    4) My reliable tp link wireless adpater automatically gets unplugged every 2-3 hours or so. I have to unplug replug to make it work everytime.

    5) *reserved for more stupid performance issues*

I am happy to be a part of this active forum. guys if anyone of you could solve any one of the above mentioned issues then i would be mooore than happy.

    Regards

Edit: Solved all my issues by doing a Clean Install.
What do you mean by clean install? Reinstall Win 10 and all programs again?

If you reinstall Windows 10, it will still auto update Win 10 anniversary Update 1607 correct? That new 1607 update did not cause any problems?

If you download the latest ISO with the Media Creation Tool, it will be the AU 1607. Clean install with that, then there is just one small update to make it current. No having to upgrade from one major build to another.

Helmut Buhler's 8GadgetPack works well on all current versions of Windows 10. I have it installed on 7 of my 8 PCs (My wife doesn't want it on hers, but all the rest have it running). Runs standard gadgets, of which I am most prone to use Clock, CPU Usage, Network Meter, and Control System. The software is free, but the developer accepts PayPal donations. I've given him $25 to help support ongoing development myself.
