Windows 10: Can't change my pc name to Ruud-PC
Can't change my pc name to Ruud-PC
Title pretty much sums it all up,
When I'm changing my pc name to Ruud-PC it says that it isn't possible. Ruud, however is possible and even Ruuud-PC is.
Here is an image in with dutch error:
The error in english is: The name of the pc is invalid.
You don't have another PC on your network called Ruud-PC by any chance?
I was just thinking about that.
I just got my laptop back after my hddrive gave up on me and now I'm changing the name of the pc back to how it was.
But in the meantime I took my old laptop, which is probably called Ruud-PC, so I have to rename that laptop to something like Ruud-PC-Old
Yep, that was the problem, thank you very much!
It's unfortunate that many software developers spend little time thinking about error messages. Those messages should not just report that an error has occurred. They should help point to a solution.
The name of the PC was not invalid; it was already in use. And the code must of had some hint of that.
yeh that should be way better.
Unfortunately there sometimes is only so much room for each error message so including a fix might not be possible.
True, but even a short message that just mentions an error code that can be looked up would be better than a message that is misleading. I'm sure people would complain if they had to look up an error code, but they probably are going to look up the message anyway (and even post a question on a forum) if the message is misleading.
When I programmed I would many a time have to look up various error codes. Fun.. no but that's the way of the world.
That is my problem as stated above.
I have windows 10 x64 home installation. I noticed, that despite I have enabled option "auto-change color scheme" (I have non-english installation so the name may differ), but it's only happening when I'm setting wallpapers manually. If it's...
Basically what the title says. I need to be able to:
1. Change the audio playback device to a specific device.
2. Change the active window.
Both need to be able to be done in cmd. How would I be able to do that?
Hello, I recently found out that Steam, (an app that I absolutely adore) has an OS, it looks amazing, but since it's still in beta and I'm not the biggest tech-head, I'm wondering if do want to try SteamOS, will I be able to come back to Windows 10?...
It can't update my most used apps to this place. Just shows 'Get Started', 'maps'... all the time
