    Windows won't allow me to place items in trash


    I've run into this several times with Windows 10 ...

    I downloaded and installed to my desktop. I installed the program. I opened it and then closed it. Now I want to remove the desktop shortcut and the installer to the trash and it won't let me. It's telling me the item is no longer located there and I'm looking right at it.

    Can someone tell me how this Windows 10 works different that I'm running into this problem. When it happens the only way I can accomplish the task is to do a restart first.

    You might want to try visiting the Desktop folder in Explorer and working from there (on my Win10 PC that's in C:\Users\<username>\Desktop). You should find a bunch of .lnk files used for shortcuts in there, and can try deleting them from there. If that doesn't work, report back and I'll make some additional suggestions.

In windows 10 1511 and now in insider preview 14393.5 I have the same issue. I set the trash can not to prompt when emptying, but it is still prompting me to empty trash can. Anyone else have this problem, and how do I fix it. Henry
