Why won't Cortana search my computer for files I am searching for?
When I search for files on my machine Cortana always goes to the web and never my machine. It has a header that says to turn indexing back on in blue but it does nothing. How can I get Cortana to search my machine for files I am looking for and not the web?

You need to set Indexing to search what folders and drives you want to keep in the index file. Cortana has a lot of short comings and one of them is file search. Double check the settings inside Cortana to make sure they are set how you want them. Keep in mind that Cortana sends that information to Microsoft's servers, so that they can track what you are doing with that feature.
I seem to remember that in Windows 8 and 8.1, if I searched for a file but didn't remember the exact name of the file, I could type part of the name and the file would be found. But in Windows 10, if I don't type the whole name, and spell it...
when i search from the start menu, all i want to find is applications (desktop apps, metro apps, shortcus to apps in the all-applications menu) and settings, not files and folders.
