I'm sure at some point the 10 will be dropped and it will just be called Windows. Or given a new name with no version number etc. New Windows maybe.

This one windows thing makes sense and what has been said here is true. But I think Windows 10 will always be known as windows 10. But I get a funny feeling that there will be a 10.1 at somepoint.

Why give windows 10 a new name? I think it has a good enough name the way it is.

Only after at least support for older windows has ended (and that's going to be long time) could a name like only Windows be used. Considering that even XP is still installed in so many computers, it's going to be loooong time till only Windows can be used.

MS has said Win 10 is the last Windows, but has said nothing about it being the last MS OS.

They have a Windows for IoT, if you can really call it Windows. Pretty limited functionality. Runs on the ARM processor though.

There's also a Win 10 Launcher for Android, although it's not produced by MS.
