    Asus laptop screen freezing

    Hello,
I recently purchased an Asus Q524UQ flipbook laptop. It came preinstalled with Windows 10 and just recently, it began with some problems where the screen would freeze and I would have no way of fixing the freeze other than forcing it to shut down. At the start, it happened right after I get booted from the new online PvP game Overwatch for poor network connection (I'm a college student btw). What I can also note is that when the screen freezes the audio would go to this weird buzzing, as if it just got stuck at the last tone it was playing.

At first I just thought it was just Overwatch messing with my computer, but later, it froze up when I was watching a Youtube video and then simply when I was searching for something on Amazon. This didn't happen every time I got on the computer, in fact, I can say that it happens only once a day. However, I got concerned when my computer froze up two times in a row in less than 5 minutes. I am a CS major so you can go a little technical with the ideas, however be in mind it can't be like a long fix since I need this computer for school work too.

    Computer Specs:
    Processor- i7-6500U @ 2.50GHz (Driver 20.19.15.4404 and Intel HD Graphics 520)
    RAM- 12GB
Graphics card- NavidiaGeforce 940MX (Driver 372.54)

I have already done the normal check for disk/RAM corruption (nothing was wrong), virus check, and reinstalled Windows 10, (checked for driver and Windows updates too) but it has still happened after all that. I also have the event log for some of the freezes that happened just recently.

    https://onedrive.live.com/?id=8F57EA...57EA051CBDF127
(I know that using a public skydrive to download the log is sketchy as hell but, this site doesn't allow uploading of .evtx files in the post so this is the best option I have right now >.>)

I'm not in a huge rush for this to be fixed, but it's better off for me to get this resolved before it starts screwing with me when I have important college things to do.

    Thanks for the help,
    Kevin

Alright, so I am in college for Computer Engineering, and I experienced this problem as well because I have the same system. What you need to do, is go to the NVIDIA GeForce website and download The GeForce Experience. This will bring to your attention all the driver updates necessary for your GPU. Once you have completed the installation, you need to go to the Drivers tab and click download at the top right. This is the official application of GeForce Graphics Card Drivers and Systems. This will download every update up to the most recent one.

This fixed it for me temporarily.

Edit: Put this in your URL if you want to the image. Shows SpeedFan's basic UI

Next, I noticed that these freezes happened much less often and far in between. I did some research and I played with some software and posted on a few forums. There is an application called SpeedFan that lets you run hard drive diagnostics. There is a common problem with the hard drives in most of these systems that causes it to fail. This application computes two indexes, or categories, for the characteristics of your hard drive. Fitness describes the health of your hard drive based on some of the attributes in the list. Performance describes the speed and, of course, performance based on other attributes in the list.

When ANY of the attributes reach a set point at which the program deems that your hard drive is nearing its end, one of the 2 bars at the bottom (display how good these 2 categories are) will fall to 0 based on the category of the attribute. A key attribute to watch is Current Pending Sector Count. Will have more information soon.

Alright, so I'm back with more info! You have nothing to worry about if the Warn column has 0's on everything. You may need to worry if there are any that are higher than 0, ESPECIALLY if it is in the Current Pending Sector Count row. This is a trusted application, but if you want a second opinion, you can download HDTune. It shows the same stuff.
