The date changes while time remains correct on ASUS laptop

    Hello,

I've tried to search for this particular problem and have run into a lot of people who have various other problems with time being incorrect. Some suggest changing the CMOS battery, but the time always remains correct even as the date changes.

Otherwise, the laptop runs as expected. The only problem is that the set date throws off expired certificate errors in browsers after it goes far enough into the future. The date always changes forward and never backwards.

I've run Windows updates and it says I'm caught up and I have run AVG free antivirus as well as Spybot S&D.

I'm not particularly tech savvy and would appreciate any help.

EDIT: I found this thread describing the same problem. I should mention that I also tried to switch the synchronizing server and have attempted to turn off synchronization to no avail. It looks like nobody posted anything to resolve the problem in that thread.

Hello and welcome to TenForums :)

Please give an example of how the date changes. Does it move up by 1 day, 1 week, 1 month or 1 year? How frequently does it change?

    Thanks!

I also have the same issue with an ASUS gaming laptop where the date is advanced in the future. Yesterday the date was September 9, 2016 and today it's October 9th. The date change has been an issue since I purchased the laptop for my son for this past Christmas. We've also ran across the expired certificate issues with the web browsers due to the incorrect date. I've been trying different things from various posts and nothing has worked. So if anyone is out there that can help us "not particularly tech savvy" people, we'd appreciate your assistance.

Couple things to check. Out of misguided paranoia, is your Location turned off in the Action Center/All Settings/ Privacy/Location ? Should look like this -
The date changes while time remains correct on ASUS laptop-screenshot_1.jpg

Also, check this - Win + R/ services.msc Scroll down to Windows Time Check if it's running AND on Auto trigger.

The date changes while time remains correct on ASUS laptop-screenshot_2.jpg
If not, r-click/select Properties/ set Startup to Automatic/ OK.

If these both check out and you try to turn off auto sync and manually set time. After all this .... ???

In UK date format Sept 9 will be 09-09-2016 and Oct 9 will be 09-10-2016. Do you see how these could be confused in the US? I would suspect you have some conflicts going on between US and UK date formats.

General Location was turned off and Windows Time was not running. I changed both as you suggested and the date has not changed for the past 13 hours which is a huge improvement! I thought I changed the Windows Time to run automatically the other day, but I guess turning off auto sync to manually change the date turned it off (just guessing). My wireless router is even staying connected which I've had trouble with since buying a new one last weekend. I'll give it a couple more days to see if the date remains accurate. So far, this has worked. Thanks for your assistance mrgeek!

The suggestions did not work. The next morning the date was off again so I contacted a tech friend and the suggestion was to update the BIOS. Sure enough, the BIOS was out of date so I downloaded the update from ASUS.com and everything has been working for the past 24 hours.

Let us know if the BIOS update continues to work and mark topic Solved so others can find it and see if it applies to their situation. Thanks for the update.
