How to access files hard drive

    Hi Folks,

I have an ongoing problem due to a Windows update that installed overnight and I am unable to log in to my computer, and I cannot enter safe mode. I have blogged this separately.

I want to be able to view and copy the files on my original Surface Pro computer running Windows 10. Someone suggested that this might be possible by downloading something like Linux. Can anyone suggest how I can actually access my files so that I can copy them if I need to do a complete reinstall?

your computer has a recovery partition to restore your computer to factory defaults.
You can create an Ubuntu Live CD and attach a USB external HDD to recover your files. Backup important personal files using Ubuntu LiveCD - Tech Support Forum

HI, thanks for your post, much appreciated. I have not worked with these kinds of systems before so everything is new for me. I know nothing about Ubuntu. When I click on the link provided in the article it does not work, so I did a search and found a download for Ubuntu Desktop, but I am not sure if this is what I should be trying to download as it is something around 25 GBs. - The size is not a problem, I have a number of USB sticks that I can put it on, it is that I don't know if it is what I should use or not. Could you please let me know what I should do? Thanks.

You specifically need a Linux live CD as it boots and fun everything from CD and doesn't install or touch the hd
