Member DavidY was kind enough to do some testing.

He found that when eMail is opened, the App creates ancillary files in that folder that are used to read the mail.
When he closed the App, only the .tmp files remained.

When he first looked at the folder it was empty, so his take is that the App eventually cleans up. He's not certain if the cleanup triggers on age, time, count or # of times the App gets launched.

Basically, DavidY confirmed that the App eventually cleans up the temp files.

The fact that Revo finds them really isn't an operational issue - it might bug you that they're there ... but you can find all sorts of things that stick around for a while (for example previous MS mail clients cleaned up after so many executions - 100 was the default).

I don't think there's anything an end user can change.

    That's all I have

Hi, I don't have the Content.MSO folder.. but as I said I don't use Mail so it's not a fair comparison, so if someone who does could comment...

Here's what DavidY replied to my request for more help on this issue:

I do have the Mail app linked to an account, but don't really use it much as I have desktop Outlook 2007.

On looking at the folder initially, it didn't seem to have the temp files, but on clicking on a couple of emails, it does create some files (including some .pngs which are images in the email I looked at). Then when I closed the Mail app, I was only left with .tmp files. Maybe 3 or 4 for each email I looked at.

They didn't seem to go away when I shutdown the computer and logged in again, but given the folder was empty when I first looked at it, I assume they get deleted eventually.

My question for the OP on that thread would be whether there are any old files or if they are all recent dates, in which case I think the older ones are being deleted. Difficult to tell if Revo or something is being used to keep wiping the folder though. My feeling it that it's only a potential problem if files get left there long enough to build up.

Good.. case closed I hope- we've both commented on inspecting the date of the files. Thanks!

In case anyone's interested... I kept an eye on the temp files in that folder.
I had some .tmp files which were dated 14th August when I responded initially.

On checking back today, the 14 August files are now gone, and the latest ones in that folder are now dated 15 August.

So my experience would suggest the .tmp files get deleted after just over 2 weeks, although I don't use it as my primary Mail app so I'm not in there every day.

    YMMV
