    File Explorer error message

I just tried to open explorer.exe and got: "This file does not have a program associated with it for performing this action..."

The program works fine if I click on a folder--it just won't open on its own.

I had this problem (without the error message) in Win 7, but it went away when I first installed Win 10--now it's back.

Hi, if you don't have a suitable system restore point you can use then a web search offers many results:

Hope that helps. Question is, what is happening on your PC to cause it?

Open control Panel >> Default Programms.
Click file explorer and set this Programs as Default

I've done this several times, and nothing changes.

Had not done it before because it did not seem to be for Win 10, but I did it now and it worked. Thanks!

For others, you can download the Windows 10 Folder .reg file version in OPTION TWO below to fix this. :)

This was what worked for me:

    https://superuser.com/questions/7205...as-no-program#

"change the default view of File Explorer from Quick Access to This PC. Go to Control Panel, File Explorer Options and change the "Open File Explorer to" option to "This PC". Then you'll be able to open File Explorer."
