Goodbye File Explorer. One more piece of Windows rendered unusable. Hello Linux.

Why does Microsoft make it so difficult to get rid of this execrable UI nuisance?
Because the majority of people find it useful, like myself. It streamlines the look for all of their applications. If they didn't do so, another small group of people would ask why they DIDN'T do so.

For the future, if you don't like a default option, change it, rather than blast Microsoft. With a little common sense applied, one realizes they can't make everyone happy all the time. In the end, it's a helpful ribbon of useful options...certainly nothing to get worked up about.

I was just going to suggest that you completely get rid of Windows and use Linux. Since you seem not like Windows, why use it?

    Baloney.

If Office users love them, or have been corporate-trained to accept them, that's fine by me.

All I want is a way to turn the ugly, time-wasting, non-standard excrescences off.

Again, only a few feel that way. It also is standard...that's the point. What happens to you when you come across a real annoyance, if you are getting this fired up over the ribbon?
