I think you didn't visit the most populor windows apps download websites , all of them bundle adware (aka malware) with every program .
also other malware and virus also are exe programs (or .msi or whatever) that will not work on normal users if windows locked to the store by default (like mac os and android)
you don't get how much safer windows will be for normal uses if it was like OSX and Android locked to the store by default (and power users will still have the ability to install whatever they want just like Android)
you too speak for you self (notice that you used "we" as if you talk for all the windows users)
and BTW windows is not as safe and stable as ipad ios , on ipad you can't get fooled and install viruses or malware that looked like a program that you tried to download , I'm a windows power user that know how to protect his PC but the other 1 billion users don't know how and get fooled all the time , so why not should windows be safe for them ?
Oh, Bull CaCa! You make it seem like all Windows users are so ignorant they don't have sense enough to come in out of the rain!
My clients are mostly senior citizens and I can tell you that they know so much more than they're given credit for . . . I don't get calls to clean their PCs up; I get calls for hardware upgrades and issues. I can guarantee that if I ever suggested to them that their PCs should be locked down "for their own protection" that would be the last time I'd be called for support.
My choice and my clients' choice is freedom from being dictated to as to what we are allowed to use on our own equipment!
I think you don't know what you're talking about when you decide where I've visited. I know enough to unclick unwanted apps; however, I don't use those apps simply because they attempt to install unwanted stuff. I know enough to go to the official site when downloading a particular program I want or need.
How many ways can you say we're so stupid we need to be protected from ourselves? Personally, I don't need that kind of help and neither do my clients.
you didn't answer what choice would you make , what is the best for the more than 1 billion windows users
1-having an OS where the normal user need to know too much to be able to protect his PC and maintain it (and being ideal for advanced uses)
2-having an OS where advanced users need to toggle something in the setting and get all they want (and being safe for normal users)
