my issue between my windows and mac computer is ,my mac,a laptop with intel core2 cpu is only compatible with os 10.6.8 or lower and when I go to the app store ,nothing is compatible with my 10.6.8,,and I cant update it any further because the cpu is not compatible with 10.7...... and I could not find a listing for older apps in the store ,,so I gave up and its now out on loan .
..and win 10 prieview runs any of the old app I have tried on it so far.

and just for the record I too really would not have to only get programs from any store

The biggest problem with App Store is quantity of quality Apps.

this is an issue of apple stores , they want to force you to update the OS if you can or upgrade the hardware , the Google Play Store and Microsoft WP store both enable the developer to submit multiple versions of his app to suit every OS version .
