So there is no fix for this?
Nope - it's all part of testing pre-release code

I've seen the WatchDog 'error' in Event viewer for a while, but not freezes or system restarts occur - just an entry in the event log.

You might try a Clean Boot (don't worry about the Win8 reference - should be the same for Win10)
See: Troubleshoot Problem with Clean Boot in Windows 8

I run my machine without any of the extra starts, I used to 'research the 'problem' startup, but now I just disable everything except Microsoft services.

The one caveat to that is: Leave your real time Antivirus (AV) startup entry enabled. Not all AV programs have a startup entry, some use the registry to do a pre-windows init quick scan (for example Defender does not have a startup entry)

This might be what you already posted - disabling the touch pad. That sounded to me as though you might venture into Device Manager to disable the hardware. I don't recommend doing that, just disable the early startup.

I'm not certain the touch pad is causing the WatchDog issue, or that the WatchDog 'error' is causing the freeze/restarts. They might be unrelated.

Anyway, try the clean boot workaround ... you will probably still see WatchDog (timer) issues, but hopefully your system won't freeze/restart.

Another thing to consider is installing bld 10.074
The ISO is available now at: Download Windows 10 Insider Preview ISO - Microsoft Windows
