Larger than "Extra Large" image thumbnails without lower resolution??

Is it possible to make image thumbnails within a folder larger than the "extra large" option without lowering the screen resolution?

I'm a designer and constantly sifting through folders of dozens of images. With my new Surface Book the resolution is so high that the "Extra Large" image thumbnails are too small. On my last laptop the images would get so big that only 3-4 would fit horizontally in the window. Now 9-10 are packed in the same viewing area.

You can turn on the preview pane as shown:

Or use a portable freeware: FastStone Image Viewer 5.7
which gives you a lot more options including the thumnail size.

Here's a screenshot in "Extra Large" thumbnail view. Each thumbnail is less than an inch wide to give you some perspective. Ideally I'd like them to be 2-3x larger.

Having to flip through the preview pane just isn't as fast as scanning through things visually when you're dealing with 100+ photos.

Is there no way to fix this in Windows without using third party software and without lowering my resolution?

Again what resolution do you have your device set at? Are you using an external monitor with the Surface?

    One suggestion:
QTTabBar allows instant mouse hover previews...
