I'm not saying that nobody would find it useful, i'm saying that I can't think of a valid reason for it other than "I first learned to use file copying in Norton Commander, and that's the only way my OCD doesn't make me paranoid". (Relax, that's a joke).
My point is that Microsoft isn't going to build a feature into Windows that such a tiny fraction of people will ever use.

I'm using FreeCommander XE 2015 build 685 and haven't noticed any problems.
It makes no sense to debate this sort of thing.... It's just an all too familiar rehash of threads that went down 2 summers ago back on 8 forums. We won't ever agree. I could take the time and energy to refute your points, but I think I'll pass....

Well crap, I guess my silence ain't gonna last. It was a single suggestion.. I could add many more. It was a single suggestion illuminating a way that they could actually improve things, rather than just change things, which will always piss off those who don't like change. Windows file managing capabilities could use some serious upgrades, stuff that would be far more useful than many of these other features they have been coming up with of late. Managing files is something your Operating system is supposed to do, and do well... Also, yeah people get attached to their tech. I spend 10 hours a day working on computers, fixing other computers. Small changes can potentially seriously improve or frack up my lifestyle. In the end, these are first world problems sure, but they do matter to those of us who spend significant chunks of our time using the technology in question. Just about every aspect of modern life in the first world is married to tech in some fashion. That's why people care they way they do. And.... I like Windows and Microsoft! I want to see them succeed! It is painful to watch a company that you like, whose products you use, shoot themselves in the foot. It's like watching a friend you care about wither away on drugs. You want to try to help, which is why I take part in forums, developer previews, and offer my suggestions around.
I will say this, I could not figure out an easy way to create those folders you allude to. Without testing, I am pretty sure that in order to create them, you have to work behind the scenes in the startmenu folder of profile, create the folder there, and then somehow manually add the links to the files/programs you want. That's a lot of work, and definitely not something the avg user will be accomplishing... Why even offer it up as a point? The functionality I spoke of is not present.
Also, when windows 8 came out, very few PC's had touch. Very few! They created an OS that catered to (I am going to be liberal in my estimate here) maybe 5% of their user base at the expense of everyone else. That was my point. Maybe half the number of new laptops going to market right now do have touch capabilities, that still does not account for the multitudes of PC's already out there. We are still talking about the clear minority of PC's that have touch capabilities... And my entire point is this. I am cool with Windows creating touch features for touch users! Great! Bring it! The more the merrier! Just add those features into the OS as an option for that small percentage of your user base who actually has touch capability, rather than replacing tried and true mouse and keyboard methods all together... Had they done this, things could have been different. They would not be backtracking now. What they did was stupid, which is why Businesses have not come on board, and why the bulk of consumers were repulsed. History has spoken.
1 last point. I did not color my friends, families, or co-workers perspectives about Windows 8. I was someone who really wanted to like windows 8. I installed it, left it vanilla for a long time trying to get used to and see the point of what was new about it. In the end, I installed classic shell, not over, but in addition to start screen, which gave me the best of both worlds. Time and again, when I needed to get somewhere though, I found myself using classic shell vs start screen. I believe it to be more efficient, but maybe it was just more efficient because it was familiar. Still, familiar is not a bad thing. Nothing wrong with leaving a button where it has always been. I could not even figure out how to turn my machine off day 1 with windows 8 without consulting google, and I work on computers. I was not alone. That video that went viral of the poor old man who could not do anything with his computer, and sat there stupefied for like 15 minutes trying to figure out how to get to the internet. That was not staged!! That was real!! I have met those people!! My wife works for a Nurse Practitioner who is one of those people. She's a busy gal. She uses computers to get things done, not for fun, and when they don't work, chaos ensues. I got a call from my wife in panic mode one day because they could not figure out how to use their new computer. I'm telling you, those were real situations. Every time I would ask, "So, what do you think of the new Windows?" and every time people would reply frustrated. One of my friends said that she was having a hard time, but wanted to learn it, so she did not want me to replace it for her. 6 months later, we hung out, and she asked if I could do that thing I was talking about (classic shell). I installed it and she told me the next day, "oh my God, this is so much better!" I am not making this up!!
