Forced shutdown safe?
Although not Windows 10 fault my machine got hung up accessing a misbehaving NAS network share. Unfortunately it couldn't resolve and I couldn't restarte explorer. I then tried a shutdown via Ctrl Alt delete but it just laboured on 'restarting' but didn't do it. I left it a few minutes.
anyway long story short, I was forced to hold down power button to eventually shut machine off. I rebooted and all seems okay with the machine. I restarted the NAS (which had been troubling) and can see no ill effects but it concerns me. I use fast start so I don't think Windows hiberysys file would of appreciated the unclean shutdown - are there any side effects I should be looking out for? I think I've got away with it but certainly don't want to be shutting down the machine in this way again
i blame the Mac OS X for the mess. The NAS in question isn't great but I had been using our iMac to try and write to it and to be honest OS X and samba are not a marriage made in heaven. The whole thing stalled. Quite why I then tried to access same share on the Windows machine and cause the ruckus is beyond me but this was the catalyst for having to shutdown like this
