Or if I could afford it or needed to.

Thing is when Microsoft stopped work on Windows Home Server, they made servers financially unavailable to folks like me.

Windows HS 2011 was really super! I used it on my home network, as can be seen in this screenshot taken the very day the Windows 8 was released (October 26, 2012), showing my then networked computers:

I suppose more people will probably need a server, as houses and apartments get "smarter too? I mean a family with a smart house, a media center, and each member a PC. How useful is it, as I'm just starting to learn & use, for VM's? I mean I only have my desktop and my laptop, but I use 2 VM on my desktop.

I had more, most of them stock HP laptops and desktops, most of them already found a new home from eBay.

Yeppers, so do I! I'm trading a 10.1" tablet for a 3-year-old HP 17" because she wants to upgrade to a new one! She said Best Buy would give her $100 trade in and I just couldn't see that happening! She wants a tablet, so I asked if she'd be interested in a trade and she said yes! Leaves me with my 11.6" tablet and a (kinda) new laptop.

Ha! I think I have 7 right now - actively being used. I have a couple laptops that work, but very old, and I'd have to put Linux on them now, to get rid of them....Then I have about 4 more boxes here that work, need Linux...I just don't have the time to do this. (Of course, that doesn't include the half-dozen or so sitting out in the garage...)

I had to remove the original video in this post and replace it with an edited version.

The original video was a test to use 50 FPS HD video. It did not play well on all devices, I have rendered the video again this time using 25 FPS and uploaded it instead. It works now better on all devices, also in HD (720p or 1080p).

Sorry if you had shared the original video, it's gone now.

I will have 4 laptops and this desktop active. I have a couple more desktops I don't have room for packed away.

I don't normally trade either, but we each had something the other wanted. So it was a good thing.

The oldest 17" laptop is waiting for someone who needs it . . . Hmmm, I may have just thought of a candidate who knows how to use it, but doesn't have one; sometimes we don't see what's before our eyes. :) Gonna talk to her today and see if she wants it.

Ahhhhh, I'll just have to click it again 25 FPS is actually perfect for video. On my HDTV I have all the extra crap turned off(Real Cinema; dynamic this and that) When it comes to video(not games) less is more!
