The "perfect" install --- not so easy !
problems i have seen during installation:
a. bios
i have had to take out the hard drive, open up BIOS twice, and do nothing, just to get a proper set up going . totally mysterious differences came up during install, such as mouse pointer there / not there;
b. to remove the installer or not
more mysteries here. sometimes, regardless of BIOS settings, the first re-start will go back to step one, and you have to remove the installer; or the computer thinks you just started. other times: it nicely asked first if i wanted to boot from the install disk, then it went to hard drive to complete.
c. drivers being installed
this mystery starts after it announces "ready" or "get started" or whatever. the truth is, you should not even touch it for the next half hour! don't even think of adding your programs, drivers, data or restarting the thing! for example after a long, long time it will find your nvidia graphics. finally everything comes to a slow down, but much later than you know.
ps a restart after the slowdown will be required to kick in the nvidia drivers.
d. to be online or not during install
i think the answer is yes but not completely sure about this one. then comes the question: wireless install, or ethernet? my experience says ethernet internet cable is far superior to a wireless install.
e. did 10 find all your latest drivers?
apparently not. you will still be stuck with that task later... if you want to. but don't worry: you will live with what 10 puts in for you.
f. mysterious freezes during 10 startup
apparently 10 has a freak connection to the hibernate functions. and the strange thing: this only happened on some computers.
there is more but i just wanted to say that.
