    It says "test result failed".
There was some dialogue box that mentioned repairing stuff, but I don't see that functionality anywhere.
    Here's the manual: http://www.seagate.com/files/staticf...-dos-guide.pdf

Does my drive have to be a Seagate? Maybe that's why I don't have the Fix menu

    Edit: dumb question.

I'm finding some people online say you can use seatools for WD harddrives... so now I don't know anymore.

Is there another reason that I wouldn't have any of fix options show up?

Its my understanding that the Seatools is only for testing Segate drives and if you have drive by another manufacturer you should use the manufacture specific testing tools for the drive in question.
Did it give you an error code? did the test run ant fail at the beginning, middle, or end?

Seagate Tools will check any drive regardless of the mfgr.

You mentioned that you saw a dialog window re: repair - when did you see that? After the short test or after the long test?

What did you do when you saw the dialog window - according to the manual you are offered to repair, but it's been a long time since I ran Seagate Tools ... it might go into automatic repair mode.

On page 3 of the manual there's a list of what Seagate Tools offers
Malware or drive failure? Machine is crippled-seagate-.png

Are you saying that you do not see all of those options?

You can always run Seagate Tools again - this time pay strict attention to the screens and write down what it says ... you could also take a picture with a phone, tablet or camera

Any error code is extremely important to members on this side of your monitor.

Unfortunately since you're booting from an external device, the log is not saved. It is stored in ram until you restart the machine normally.

You might be able to save the log if you're booting from a Thumbdrive - you can put it on the same Thumbdrive .

That's why I assumed- apparently WD no longer has an iso available, unfortunately.

It seemed to just say that the long test failed, at the end of yeh test. There were many strings of numbers (I took pictures if them, maybe 50 or more?)
but I don't know what they were.

Ya, that fix menu doesn't exist for me. I just have basic, advanced, etc...

I also saw no way to fix or repair after, it just gave me a window with all those numbers (the error codes?) and that it failed. I was back at the main menu after that.

Without any information other than it failed ... no error codes, no thing else, all I can say is that it failed and is, according to the manual, a faulty drive.

    You could run WD Lifeguard
How to test a drive for problems using Data Lifeguard Diagnostics for Windows | WD Support

but my experience is that it isn't as good as Seagate Tools.

Your experience might be different, so give it a shot.

What if WD LG also says it's bad?

Then you're going to try and save your data off that drive and replace it.

There are any number of Linux distros or REscue discs, but I like Linux Mint (Mate edition)
    Download - Linux Mint
Choose 32-bit or 64-bit (Mate or Cinnamon)

    Documentqation: install and use
    Documentation - Linux Mint

You can put it on a USB or DVD, then boot from it and copy your files to another external drive

If any of that is necessary - I would do it anyway.

Time to buy a new drive and hopefully still be able to copy your important data off the old one.

Here is an imgur album to show what I mean, perhaps these are the error codes?

You can see I have no fix option - however, it didn't exist when I scanned my other hd, which is a Seagate, either. Perhaps there's a little hope if I can figure out why I don't have that functionality?
