Fwiw, maybe creating the rescue media from another sane system would be better

    I am :)

The program suddenly revealed itself so I'll let a scan run now.

So, I checked back a while later before falling asleep and it just said "corrupted" in red letters and had stopped the scan.

    Okaaaaayyy.......
Let's move on to Seatools. My previous post:

Next, we could run SeaTools on the drive to see if it is "failing". CHKDSK does not address all SMART attributes of a drive. Some values could be failing soon, but not yet. We are talking a spinner here, and not SSD, right?
I would grab the SeaTools for DOS instruction PDF, and the file download. Probably best to run the Short Test first, and then if it passes, run the Long test. The Long test will be very long.
@essenbe: any guidelines for the OP on running this? Your input would be appreciated. :) Thanks.

The best way to run Seatools is Seatools for DOS, this will show you how. Be sure and run the long test. http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials...use.html#Part2

I will try this as soon as I can
Edit: essenbe, don't run the short test first?
