Start Menu fixed on laptop, Not on desktop after running Tutorial

I know there are tons of posts on this, but none of the posts were any help until I posted a question awhile back and I got a great recommendation from Simrick telling me how to Update my Windows version. He referred me to a tutorial which was very helpful. On the laptop I tried the fix in tutorial, and it didn't work. Both PCs were running Windows 10 Pro 10586.164. I wound up doing a clean install of the latest build of Windows 10 Pro, 10586.318. Laptop is fine now. I'm on that same build on my desktop after the Update using the Microsoft Media Creation tool to install windows while Windows is running. That was last night I did the desktop. After that, and being on the same build as laptop - Start Menu still not working
I tried a registry fix that I found on Microsoft Answers where you add an item to registry. That was a fix I'd not seen before. Tried it, doesn't work. And the laptop registry doesn't have the Reg item in it so it must not be needed. But I put it in my desktop anyway hoping it would do something. That post on Microsoft was from mid 2015, so I wasn't real hopeful it would work for me on this build.
Any of you Gurus out there that have an idea what I can do? I am really not up to another clean install of Windows. Especially on the desktop. I have a lot more programs on desktop than laptop.
    I appreciate any suggestions.
    Thanks,
    Cathy

BTW, I did a chkdsk /r and also ran a WD test utility, and did full virus scan and ran Malware Bytes on both of my hard drives before starting the update. This is interesting, and I must throw this in. I looked at my installed updates on the desktop before I did the update. I had about 30 updates for Office 2013 products, and the last date for the office updates was 4-5-16.
I had ZERO Windows updates, and I did a clean install of Windows 10 Pro early Feb of this year. I find it hard to believe that there were no updates from Windows for all that time.
I have my updates set to download automatically and notify me. I don't like to do Automatic updates. I've gotten about 40 updates to Office for different languages when I had it set on Auto Update.
And because I don't fully trust the update process, I go in frequently and check for updates.

No I hadn't heard of that. I'll give it a go. Thanks for your suggestion. I'll try anything.

I think Microsoft has a fix

I just did a check for updates. I got two hits and one of them says after 1511 some users couldn’t use the Start menu. I'm thinking I just went through the upgrade again at 10 or 11 this morning. It checked for updates then. When I went to Msft update site to check out the update it said update was done on 5-11 or 5-12. I would like to have had it then...... Let's hope the update works.
    I'll let u guys know.
