Hi, if your default for (e.g.) mp3's is Windows Media Player, then editing items in Properties, Details, works. If not, it doesn't.

But if you still wish to use explorer to edit tags and your default player is not WMP, then you can still use what I posted in #2

I noted quite a number of people puzzled about this from at least Win 7- not new to Win 10.
Just to add to the comment above, not only if the default player is WMP but Groove Music as well, then you're able to edit tags in Windows Explorer.

Problem with burning a music CD b/c song length is not in properties

I've read the thread and saw that both Dalchina and DooGie suggested using MP3Tag, so I've downloaded that. But I still cannot figure out what to do. I did see a thread on an MP3Tag forum site that said that length is an attribute not a tag so it cannot be altered. iTunes and Ashampoo won't seem to recognize the mp3 files, and Windows Media Player gives the following error message: "It is not possible to determine if this file can fit on a disc because Windows Media Player cannot detect the length of the file. Playing the file before burning might enable the Player to detect the file length."

Playing the file before burning did not help.

The mp3s were created by converting from YouTube.

    Thanks much for any help!

I suggest you upload one to a cloud service and provide a link so someone can download it and try for you.

What did you use to download it and convert it? I've not had issues when I did that.
Try a different tool - there are plenty of Youtube downloaders.

MP3Tag, TagScanner, MP3Test, MP3Diags are all useful MP3 utilities. I wonder if you have a file ownership problem in accessing your MP3 files. Try installing Take Ownership on the right click menu as shown here Add Take Ownership to Context Menu in Windows 10

When I have this problem with an mp3 I find converting it as an mp3 again fixes the length problem. I use "format factory portable" if that's any help.

The MP3Diags utility I mentioned above is good for finding and fixing many MP3 file issues.

    How to edit mp3 details?

Hello, there is just one simple way to fix this. If your mp3 file is read-only and you're not allowed to change the details, try making a copy of the file details. To do this, follow those steps:
    1. Open your file explorer
    2. Go to your mp3 file
    3. Open properties
    4. Uncheck the Read-Only box
    5. Go to details tab and click Remove Properties and Personal Information
    6. Choose Create a copy with all possible properties removed
    7. Click OK
    8. Click OK again when it creates a copy of the mp3 file
    9. Choose the copy of file and right click > properties
You're done! You can now edit file properties.
