Use Win10 as main OS ??

I think it's close enough and the befits I think out weigh any short comings testing. I use Win8.1.1 as my primary and Win10 in a VM.. My testing with Win10 is just about done and all I want to see is Spartan, so using a VM for me is the way to go. In addition I ran Win10 as a primary OS for months so I know it will work fine on my PC.

For me the bottom line is having a sable OS for daily use and to be able to play with Win10 every now and then. And when the RTM comes out I'll upgrade to Win10,, or just purchase the DVD.

You are right.
The most you can do with Virtual testing is to learn how to use the new interface and look for bugs.
The bigger problem with new OS is compatibility with your existing hardware and software. You may be able to install Win 10 on a virtual machine without hiccups. Try installing that on a physical machine and see if your existing drivers/hardware will all work.



Complaining about bugs is one thing. But making the OS work on your PC is another. Some people cannot even get past the installation stage.

At this early stage, you should already know how to get past those hurdles. If you only use VM now and then get the DVD installer when it's released, you will be surprised and left behind if you don't already know how to go about those hardware issues.

I agree.. doing both is important to make sure WIn10 will work properly on any PC and with the upgrade process from any previous version of Win10 is a critical test. So far for me the upgrade from WIn8.1.1 went fine.

What about gaming? I just finished loading up latest build into a virtual machine and it looks really promising. Anyone know how well it handles games?

Also, anyone know how licensing will be handled? Meaning, if I load 10 on my 8.1 machine, will I be able to keep it. Microsoft has offered a free upgrade to those of us using windows 8.1 etc., but what if I was running 8.1 but am now running 10? Will I have to downgrade back to 8 in 4 months in order to upgrade to 10 for free?

Consensus of opinion is that Previews will be upgradable to RTM - if licencing stays as per current editions, your Windows 8 key will give permanent activation.
