The transparency of Start Menu is not awful for my tastes, but this hybrid thing it is and I think is combined with the next one.
"All Apps" setup, yes, it's like we are getting back to W7 (or maybe XP) Desktop.
In terms of personalization I hope many things will be fixed until RTM, perhaps after RTM who knows?
I will keep this dual-boot setup as much as I can and certainly I won't upgrade from day one (when RTM comes).
I actually like the hybrid start menu. I never was one to be too much of a stickler about using my start menu, I just like it for nostalgia reasons. This hybrid thing kinda sorta makes my start menu slightly more useful now. To top it off, there's never a need for metro screen unless I want to search something quickly.
I installed W10 on a separate partition about a month ago, moved everything over to W10, and now use W10 as main computer. It worked so well that I have removed Windows 7 from my computer. I have had no problems of any type; however, I have one concern that someone might address. I understand that W10 will be free to users of Windows 7 and 8 for one year. Since I no longer have Windows 7, am I going to have a problem getting the published version of W10 for free?
Who knows what will happen at the end? Early days for conclusions. I mean, if MS release an image as an upgrade I suppose you will be able to use the Win7 legal key to install the W10 RTM. Or maybe a link would be available where you can input your legal W7 key and download W10 RTM. Nothing is completely sure, until gets in "flesh and bones".
Until now, I know that W10 will be available as a FREE upgrade to W7 and W8/8.1 users through Windows Update and that's it.
Removing your trusted Win 7 or Won 8.1 system to replace it with a test version of Win 10 is suicidal if you do not make an image of your trusted system. With an image you can always backpaddle.
At least for Win 8.1 you can find an iso from Microsoft and reinstall if you have the key (e.g. from the COA sticker). But with Win 7 you may be stuck. For OEM keys there are no more isos on the web. For Win 7 retail keys, MS still provides a download. See posting of adamf 2 posts down.
I think for most users testing Win10TP is best to use a VM of some kind. Why?? I just think it's easier to test and evaluate a new OS and still have a stable one to fall back on for daily use. That's why I run Win8.1.1 as my primary and I test Win10TP in a VM.(VMWare)..
