    I'm going for Windows 8.1.1.
Main reason is security, as the only security-software I found working automatik is Windows defender and malwarebyte Pro. My bitdefender can be installed, but scan ONLY when I start it manually.
Other reasons is lack of support for my realtek 1150 onboard sound. Only flat sound, no bass or trebble adjustment is possible. My beloved game TestDrive Ferrari Racing Legende don't work in 10041, as the old #Games For Windows# don't work.
And I can't get Windows 10 in my language. How many of you would use Windows 10, if it only came in Swedish
As 10041 seems to get more bugs than earlier build, I think it is time to go back, as I need to clean install because of new HW. I do know I will have to reinstall again when Windows 10 is out for real.

Ummm, neither did the other 59 scanners - so it seems to me that Dr.Web is reporting a false positive. Not every AV scanner is correct - there are some that report false positives on just about any file.
The way Virus Total works is that it reports a piece of malware only once - from the program that found it first. Else it would look like you have e.g. 30 trojans where in fact they are all the same. Sometimes you see doubles if it is from the scanners of the same company.

False positives are always possible. But I rather don't take a chance.

    Hi there

It's a TEST system so things won't necessarily work. As for Languages I had to wait ages until Language Interface packs were available for Icelandic in W8.1 - obviously as a US company I would expect initial software offerings to be in English - if you ignore the Chinese market I think most people who work a lot in I.T have a reasonable understanding of English.

Years ago I did some work on SAP systems - German Software company -- at that time 90% of the software was in German so the language thing -- give it time and it will be fixed.

As to hardware drivers - obviously it's hard for manufacturers to complete their drivers while Ms is still updating / changing the OS which is why in some cases only the basic functionality will work.

Video games are another specialized area - the current builds of the OS are rather more geared to DESKTOP users doing "classical workplace" type of stuff who were to say the least singularly unimpressed with W8.

If the current build is not for you then just put it aside and possibly come back to W10 later when there are some newer builds which might suit you better.

This is an OS still in the DEVELOPMENT CYCLE -- reading these threads I get a little bit exasperated as people are throwing objections at the OS as if it were the finished Retail version -- that product is still MONTHS away - and it might (probably) won't even be ready this year.

as for security Windows defender (badly named of course as it confuses people with the rubbish earlier product) is built in to the kernel of the OS and works as well (or as poorly - depening on your viewpoint) as anything else - and 3rd party av software obviously will have a problem while Ms is still changing around the core of the OS. In any case any "Comparative" after the fact AV software report is totally B/S as anything can happen between the date the measurements were compiled and the current date - also people USE their computers in so many different ways that again any sort of AV comparison is next to impossible.

    Cheers

If you have removable hard drive trays, it's not that bad.
I have all of my Caviar Blacks permanently installed as I use them daily, I don't have enough 5.25" external drive bays to install them all that way so it's a no-no unfortunately.

Well, I have 2 ways to deal with detaching hard drives on my system when I need to without physically opening up the case and pulling them out. Aside from that removable tray, I also have hard drive power switch installed for the hard drives permanently installed inside the case. Mine can accommodate up to 4 hard drives.

Nice, I'll have a look into that. My other idea was to just disable the drives in the BIOS, install the OS then re-enable the drives in the BIOS again.

Interestingly my plan use the latest Windows 10 build as my main OS, i am going to do this tonight :)

I store nothing on my OS Drive (Well applications/programs yes...) but all personal files etc.. are stored on a central NAS box which is backed up to both the cloud and external drive therefore no matter how bad a build/update may be it won't be an issue, i have nothing to lose.

I have been running 10 in a virtual environment, now time to use it full time! :)

It is my experience that the person at the computer is the best (or worst!) security device. Some are happy to install/run anything whilst others are darn careful. The latter rarely get infected.

I have only run MSE or Defender for years and never caught anything. But, there is always tomorrow!! That's what image backups are for.

Anyway, the decision is yours to make so good luck.
