As the world is today, here are some really easy to remember basic rules:
    - The only way to be sure you are never followed online is never to go online
    - The only way to be sure you are never listened on phone is never to use a phone
    - The only way to be sure you are never connected to a cloud is never to go online because your emails, the friends wall on Facebook, the news article on CNN, even this post you are reading now, all that is in the cloud
    - The only way to be sure you are never followed is to live alone and never leave home

But, in reality, use of brain and logics is allowed. Windows does not call home to "leak" your credentials, that noise you hear on phone does most probably not mean NSA is listening you, Google is not interested in your bank account number and login credentials and so on.
Like I said before, I never said any of that. It is just that I have deep distrust of some people that came from when I worked for The FBI and then as a Police Officer way back in the 1970's. I am aware of the types of criminals out there and what they now can do. I do not care if MS, Google or the NSA for that matter logged everyone of my Key Strokes. They would see a large amount of useless data. I do know what the Government can do under the Patriot Act and that is fine with me. I ended my working career as an Engineer with AT&T and Lucent and am quite aware of security protocol..If you or anyone else here wants to use Windows 10 as a main OS that is your right , I am not saying to anyone not to, just that I will not. I may try it again.

I know you didn't say that. I just wanted to simplify this.

A fact is that using for instance one of these last 10K builds of Windows 10 does not make your online presence any more vulnerable. IE and other browsers work just fine in these builds, as do firewalls and AV protection both from MS and third parties.

Your, or my security both online and real life is based on a combination of things. What we do, who we know, how careful we are. If something happens, there quite often is a self caused mistake in the background. For instance your identity is pretty difficult to steal without you doing something wrong at some point, a careless login to an online service when somebody is watching, a bank statement with all personal information accidentally among the newspapers you brought to recycling, an unlocked mobile phone in Starbucks table while you went to rest rooms and so on.

Of course accidents happen, too, accidents which are definitely not caused by you. It's difficult always to be prepared but there's quite a lot you can do. For the self caused accidents and mistakes it takes concentration and planning to avoid them, using your brain and logics, using two step verification where available, learning to keep the ID papers and phones in such a way with you that they are virtually impossible to be lost without an non-foreseen accident or violence and so on.

I am known to be a Windows fan boy but even I have something I really do not like in Windows: it is the way my full name and email address are shown in Welcome and Login screens. This is why I recommend that if you have a laptop which you use often in public places, do not create any MS accounts on it. Use only local accounts, then connect each online service you want to within this local account to an MS account.

An example: use a local account to sign in to Windows 10, then connect the OneDrive within that account to your real MS account. Do the same with XBox app if you are a gamer or use XBox Music, and set up the Mail app manually etc.. Now you have all benefits of an MS account except the syncing of the settings but your Welcome and Login screens do not reveal a single full name and email address assigned to that name.

I use W10 as my main OS cuz I just fool around on my PC.
I take care of my banking, shopping and business affairs the old fashioned way.
Work related stuff is all done on my tablet.
Oh, My! I'd hate to know I had to actually work on a tablet! I got mine because it was a curiosity, and then when the Microsoft Office for Android (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) beta came up, I wanted to test with my Slate 10 HD, but HP didn't see fit to upgrade it to KitKat. So I got an RCA 10 with KitKat from Walmart for $99 to test with. 'S OK, but I would not want to use it for Office other than for the occasional time I needed to use it when no "real" computer was available.

I do not believe I even mentioned you. This is my opinion and other you are free to use it for whatever you want to.
I was teasing, Gary. About the part "doing something wrong". I totally and unequivocally believe one should use a beta as they choose, not what I tell them to do with it.

The rest was in all seriousness, and I use Windows 8.1 for all really serious work because I don't want to mess anything up. I also use an external hard drive for saving my work to, be it on Windows 10 or 8.1.

I doubt he means slate. I believe it is a term for larger than normal mobile-telephone.

My slate is a 10" tablet, Adam. Which is pretty big as tablets go. However, there are 12" tabs showing up lately.

So, do you mean larger than 10" or smaller? Like a great big phone?

I use an external drive as well to image my system. I do not use restore points so I do an image every other day. Sorry I do not know everyone well yet on this forum to know when they are serious or not. I hope to get to know more people as time goes by.

I get it done pretty efficiently and quickly at work on the tablet. Rarely do I bring work home with me!
