As of March 26th I have cleaned up my hard drive and then did a format of the hard drive when doing a clean install of
10041. Everything went in without any errors until doing shutdowns and I get a explorer.exe error on the screen and you can click ok and it completes the shutdown. I have reported it in detail.
I have also went back to Chrome as IE does not save login information.
After the install I left the system on the slow ring for now.

    Sounds good Larry.

I get the Explorer shutdown issue too. There was a memory leak in one of the earlier releases - guess there's another one in 10.041.
side note: I installed VS 2013 and then uninstalled it - shut down produced 20 things as causing shutdown errors (I assume they were all VS related).

IE should save login info - are you saying you have it setup to do so and it doesn't?

Yeah, me too - on the slow ring. I lived on the bleeding edge most of my corporate life

I've been using Win10 as my primary for quite some time and it's working just fine for me at least.
I wanted to set my system up with Win 10 as my primary operating system. When I upgraded to 9926 OVER windows 8.1, I experienced a problem or two. I tried to open control panel and it would not open, saying it could not be stored and kept asking me where I would like to write the zip file???? I also could not open the Device Manager, with the same reference to zip file storage. FORTUNATELY I am a nut when it comes to backups, and I decided that I would have to restore my system to 8.1. SO, I have to be content for now to run dual boot of 8.1 and 10 build 10014.

I have now given up on running 10014 on my main PC, however I am running it on a spare 2nd PC, not as good as 9226. Maybe needs a few updates.

To me, 10014 is a step backwards from 9226. Mind you, any problems ALWAY find me , even back in the day of Win 3.1, I had issues
Are you actually running Build 10014 or is it 10041, which was release early this week? If you're running 10014, you probably have a leaked build; I cannot find any official release of that one.

    Hi there

    slight inaccuracy here

You can ALWAYS revert to a previous OS PROVIDED you take an Image of it (backup) BEFORE performing the upgrade --you won't lose any activation om RESTORE and it will save you having to re-install it again.

Note also if you REVERT back again you should also take a backup of the NEW OS in case you want to use it again -- you might only have reverted for a while to get a specific program to work while the New Os is getting fixed or updated.

    Cheers

Yeah, Jimbo, I knew that; however, I was talking about "legally". I'm pretty sure Microsoft will allow us to roll back if we don't like the RTM version, but I am not sure, since things are still so much up in the air.

While it would be easy to mix the 4 and 1 and say 10014 instead of 10041 you are aware the build 10014 is an actual build that was leaked and therefore people could potentially get their hands on it and some people would for good reason, it apparently has Spartan on it.

I think he may be referring to 10041 and got the numbers mixed up though.

    No, running 10041. Mistyped numbers!

Thanks, Magilla. I thought it was 10041, but wanted to be sure what you were talking about.

    Weird Interactions

I haven't noticed the explorer.exe shutdown issue on any build.
Perhaps it is due to some weird interaction between W10 and some software you have installed (like the faulty context menu entry issue on other versions of Windows).

Apart from the Notification icon glitch on my W10TP b10041 VM, everything else seems to be working OK.
Although I still think that the desktop Window Snapping was better in b9841, I've figured out how to make it work for me.

My only other issues are basically cosmetic ones:
    • Twin Control Panels
    • The awful (full screen) Start Menu transparency
    • The horrible "All Apps" setup
    • The lack of Personalization adjustments to tame the diamond white theme

I'm seriously considering running LM17.1 more often, so that I can use the W10 VM more often too.
I've only installed a few programs, but they seem to be running properly.
It might be time to "up the ante".

    Staying with Win 8.1

I have been dual booting 8.1 and 10 TP since MS uploaded the first version, nary a problem. I still use 8.1 as my primary, mainly due to the constant update schedule. I use an SSD for each OS, and keep all programs on a separate HD for each. Plus keep a complete backup on an external USB 3.0. Can't be too safe, can we? I am running an AMD CPU, 8150 with 8 cores.

I personally won't be installing 10 onto bare metal until RTM, only because I can't be arsed to keep unplugging my other SSDs/HDDs to perform clean installs. I can't wait to get in a dual boot.
