File explorer will not open when set to This PC

Either from a shortcut or a taskbar icon, File Explorer will not open to This PC. When I change to Quick access it opens. A shortcut to any folder will open to This PC. I suspect this has to do with a recent update (KB3140741). I can live with the situation as I normally use Total Commander but would prefer Win 10 to behave properly.

Hi, If you have a suitable System Restore point, disk image you've created you can restore, or system image created by Windows Backup and Restore, I suggest you use those. If you don't have any of those, or are not sure what they are, these are ways to recover from snags everyone should routinely use to save a great deal of time and frustration.

Otherwise, can you check this in
    a. Safe Mode
If that doesn't work, suggests you need to repair Windows.
    b. If that works, then try a clean boot
If that works, then diagnose the cause
    c. If that doesn't work, then use
Shellexview (free), download, instal, launch, hide all MS extensions
Disable all others, noting Options, Show 32 bit extensions
If that works, diagnose the extensions using Shellexview.

You can also try creating a new user, and check how it functions there, in case you have a corrupt user profile.

Ok! I made and ran a repair disk which set the version back some. Just installed update kb3125217 and all seems well. Except the ability to save colors to "Start, taskbar, action center and title bar" no longer offers title bar. I thought that a late update made that happen but I can't find it online. Do you have any info about that?

    Hi, good.
    I see this:

    Does this help?
Inactive Title Bar Color - Change in Windows 10 - Windows 10 Forums
Also Winaero's tweaker includes an option to colour that- it's worthwhile getting a copy.

Yes, been around that block before and saved the relevant section. It worked in my previous version. In fact, it overrode the selected title color, although the Theme did not reflect it. This time, no luck. Title bars remain ghostly white. Some day MS will attend to this and I hope to be alive to enjoy it. Meanwhile I've invoked the Aero theme which allows for color. Unfortunately, Office 2003 loses its icon bar color under Aero (but the icons stay colored).

    Thanks for your patient help.
