    Unconventional query?

OK, I am new here. We recently purchased an RCA tablet that had Win10 on it.Personally I do not consider it a *good* thing. Win10, that is. Though we have a Win7 machine here, most of my network is WinXP/Linux. What I want to do is remove as much of M$ as possible from win10 as possible, and replace with FOSS/3rd party apps. That even includes disabling updates, and even the entire security center and firewall. It does nothing to block boogers, and I have software and procedures in place that do so quite effectively on the XP platform where I can click to my hearts content on live RATs without effect. Are there any guides/links/books for doing this? (BlackVipers site is a baby step).I would prefer registry hacks, as opposed to software methods. But either would do. Please note that I have been with Win since v3.0 (and Linux since v0.9), so I realize what I am asking for is not advisable to be used for newer/inexperienced users. Is asking this question an excommunicable offense? I believe safe computing is protection against corporate user tracking as much as keeping hackers from Minsk from using my system as storage for kiddie porn. As a side question, can typical tablets be downgraded to Win7 an still maintain the excellent touch drivers (probably from Intel) on the system?

Check my tweaks, they might give you some ideas, it is pretty light compared to, what you are asking for, but it is a start.

    [Batch] Windows 10 Tweaks - Pastebin.com

By taking ownership, you can remove a lot of Microsoft stuff, like Windows apps, do not forget to keep Settings though.

Many thanks, just what I was looking for. Batch file has plenty of options, and so far all seems to be going surprisingly well.

Interesting how only the M$ garbage whines about UAC being turned off, but other programs do not. LibreOffice installs fine.

Cygwin will be my next project!

The difference is Windows is an operating system and LibreOffice isn't .. the instillation process is totally different.

One place for you to look regarding security against 'bad' sites is the \Windows\System32\drivers\etc\HOSTS file which allows you to prevent your system from seeing any site you designate (and making you invisible from those sites), amongst other things. Use your search engine to look up HOSTS modifications.

Unlike the Registry, it is a simple database that you can edit manually (although there are many downloadable versions already done for you), without damaging your system unrecoverably.

In Windows 8, M$ would change HOSTS back to a default version if you changed it, but the situation has been corrected in Windows 10.

It simply maps the name of a host site to an IP address you choose, overriding the DNS settings. For example, it could send all traffic to and from bad_xxx.ru.com to 0.0.0.0 on your machine (apologies to bad_xxx.ru.com if it exists, and is OK), effectively ignoring it. You could do the same to all M$ sites out there, if wished.

HOSTS works virtually the same on all Windows and Linux systems, including Android.
